Facebook Expands in Some Regions and Shrinks in Others

Twice annually (in June and December), the information on which social networks are dominant in each country is published. According to these maps Facebook has shown considerable growth in the past two years, as the social network is nearing 700 million users.
It seems a number of other social networks are being phased out all together – Lide, hi5, Nasza-klasa and a bunch of other ones I can’t pronounce.
I know this may not seem to related to cellular technology, but I think phone applications have played a part in this and will continue to as more countries adopt smart phones and, with twitter now integrated into iOS 5, who knows if they’ll be able to claim some regions of their own.
What’s also odd is that traffic has dropped in countries that adopted Facebook first, such as Canada and the USA. Perhaps it’s a sign of changes to come.
