iPad will sell better than the HP TouchPad, Analyst claims

Nothing makes me happier than daily updates and news about this tablet - regardless if for good or bad. Whether pricing, release date, or even just the progression of its webOS platform, I get a lil’ giddy inside; even more so since the news dropped yesterday from HP that the TouchPad will hit Canadian soil this summer.
Well, as it turns out, not everyone has as much high hopes for the TouchPad as I do. JP Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz argues that consumers in general aren’t quite as excited as we are, however, and he doesn’t see HP’s forthcoming tablet voyage attracting buyers away from Apple’s iPad 2. “While we expect HP’s webOS platform to be a differentiating factor compared to the many Android tablets expected to reach the market, we do not think the price points on the TouchPad are aggressive enough to attract the incremental buyer from the iPad,” Moskowitz wrote in a note to investors. He went on to say “Plus, the lack of wireless connectivity and limited storage options are a setback. We will look to additional data points as the TouchPad hits the market in coming weeks, but for now, we are lukewarm”
While I agree with some of Mr. Moskowitz points, I think that the TouchPad will do better than he predicts. webOS - similar to a pint of Guiness - is an OS that has an acquired taste; while not immediately loved, once users’ become comfortable with the Tiles, UI, and eco-system, they develop somewhat of a bond with how fluent it works. But, the issue(s) that have consistently held back webOS from being more than what it has potential for are a lack of developers support and, yes, the choice of hardware used on behalf of HP Palm (the Pre has come under scrutiny time and time again for it’s shoddy build). I strongly feel that webOS will be truly optimized on a tablet and now that one is finally coming, its true potential will shine.
