HP to Consider Partners to Distribute WebOS?

Since I began writing for this site, i’ve found myself taking more interest in the phones people are using. Within my own circle for instance, the stand-out choices are Blackberry and Apple; this also seems to be the case with most other groups of friends that I approach and ask. What really interested me, however, was speaking to people who land “in the margins”; those who like to live outside the norm and use the underdog, less popular OS’s. One such person was a webOS evangelist; he really seemed to know his way around the Palm Pre/webOS and was interested in what plans HP had for Palm– he literally emanated excitement.
Well, HP CEO Leo Apotheker may have given a glimpse into that at D9 today by mentioning the prospect of webOS being distributed by “partner” companies; his hypothetical example of HTC inquiring into making webOS products and HP being “open” to such a conversation. HPs plans to emphasize the webOS platform which will include integrated PCs, printers and handhelds, and partnering up may help them achieve their goals.
I am very interested in seeing how this transpires. Stay tuned for more.
