We just got word that this had been released by one of our friends. Rogers has just introduced a Remote TV Manager Service for all their customers in Ontario only who are using the (Scientific Atlantic) SA 8300 HD PVR - with support coming soon to 8642 HD PVR - and an iPhone.

The service allows customers to manage their HD PVR from anywhere using their cell phone once they have downloaded the free iPhone app from iTunes (link below).

As laid out in the little blurb above, there are a number of really awesome features available via this app and service, especially for those of us who are often on the go. These features include the ability to: schedule recordings, browse the Rogers TV Guide (that is the guide which pops-up on your TV screen by clicking the Guide button), check how much space you have left to record shows on your PVR, delete scheduled recordings, delete recorded programs, and more.

It is “Available on all Wireless Networks” which I assume means that if you have an iPhone and it isn’t on Rogers but are a Rogers cable customer with the above mentioned PVR that you can still use the app and the service. It also will work on Wi-Fi as well as on the cellular network.

The app requires that you have a MyRogers account set up, the SA 8300 HD PVR - with support coming soon to 8642 HD PVR - and, of course, a Rogers digital television service subscription. According to the iTunes listing for the app, there are two differing opinions on what exactly is required to use the app. On the left hand side of the screen, where iTunes normally lists requirements for apps, it says this app is “[c]ompatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad” and that it “[r]equires iOS 3.1 or later“. According to the description of the app in iTunes, you must have iOS 4 installed. Give it a try and let us know which of the two you find to be the case.
