Gartner: Android leads Smartphone OSs Worldwide in Q1’11

In case you were unsure of Android’s pwnage over every other smartphone OS, well known analyst Gartner is back at it again, releasing smartphone sales figures from Q1 of 2011; and as you can see above, the truth is in the numbers. Android is rocking it with a 36% market share lead — a huge jump from the 9.6% market share they held same time last year — followed by Symbian at 27.4%, iOS at 16.8% and finally, BlackBerry OS at 12.9%.
Gartner went on to say that Android is positioned for even more explosive growth, as manufacturers release more and more mid-range devices using the booming OS — a market which was once dominated by Nokia’s Symbian OS.
No matter how you put it, the Android OS keeps exceeding analyst projections, and is no doubt in a fantastic position to take reign as the number one smartphone OS in the world.
