Live from the “LG Affair” at 99 Sudbury in Toronto

Another day, another glorious product launch party.
Today’s event features two hot devices itching to hit the Canadian market: the LG Optimus 2X; a dual-core, Android 2.2 powered smartphone, which features many drool worthy attributes other than its 4″ WVGA LCD touch screen — which is uber hot in its own right. And yes, how can I forget, the LG Optimus Pad: LG’s first stab at the tablet game and a beast all its own featuring: an 8.9-inch screen, Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), 3D Camera with full HD 1080p decoding, and a Tegra 2 dual-core processor for console-quality gaming. Both are as equally sexy as they are — as of yet — unspoken for by any carrier.
Stay tuned for more pictures and hands-on with the device(s) as the event unfolds!
Update 1:
The front and back of the Optimus Pad; showing the gorgeous 8.9″ display up close and personal and the ever-present Google branding on the back. Although not officially announced, the tablet will launch exclusively with Rogers, as you will see from the carrier branded icons below.
Update 2:
A few hands-on shots with the LG Optimus 2x, which — unlike its sister the Optimus Pad — has not been announced by any carrier, yet. The device is gorgeous and has a very comfortable feel in hand. And again, maintaining brand consistency, you will see the same silver strip with the Google marking on the back. Also, do you notice the T-Mobile branding on the front above the speaker, hinting at the availability of an AWS iteration not only existing, but possibly coming to Canada as well? No official word yet, but you never know — boy would that make WIND/Mobilicity customers happy.
Update 3:
Below is a shot of the BlackBerry PlayBook, LG Optimus Pad, and Samsung Galaxy Tab lined up side by side, showing the differences in size and form factor.
Update 4:
An up-close look at the “Rumble Chair” used for playing “Need for Speed” on the Optimus Pad. Though I didn’t get a chance to actually sit and experience, there was a fairly long lineup to try it out.
Overall this event was well planned out, despite being so early in the day. LG has done an excellent job with these devices and I am sure — once launched — that they will do well on.
Expect an official launch announcement in the coming days for both devices.
