Angry Birds hits Chrome store; goes live in celebration, sort of [Video]

Damn this year is flying by.
With CES, CTIA, MWC, BlackBerry World, and now Google’s I/O conference over, us bloggers get some time to doing something we haven’t done in a while: relax. What better way to relax than with a lil’ Angry Birds on your desktop to help the time fly by? Yup, you read that right; during today’s final keynote, the CEO of Angry Birds developer, Finland based Rovio Mobile, Peter Vesterbacka, came on stage to announce something spectacular: the Angry Birds web app is now available in the Chrome Web Store — epic. Gone are the days of hiding your phone under your desk at work so you can play the highly addictive game.
This version of the app is web-based, making the experience much smoother than the native version found on most in-market device’s. Vesterbacka was even quoted saying “It’s one of the best we’ve built to date”. Even better? The game is downloadable as well, just in case you want some offline action!
The only real downside — which isn’t a big deal for most — is that Rovio Mobile followed the lead of the existing Android iteration of the game by offering the App free of charge, with money being generated from in-app ads. Personally, I’d rather have the option of paying the $.99 to avoid the ad pop-ups, but that’s just me.

Also, remember in the title I mentioned the game went “live in celebration”, well, here you go: a live action cover of the infectious Angry Birds theme song by the group Pomplamoose:
