Steve Jobs on iOS Location Issue: ‘We Don’t Track Anyone, Android DOES’

In the world according to Steve Jobs it seems the the whole iOS tracking people’s whereabouts is patently untrue. In fact, in El Jobso’s warped world view it is actually ANDROID devices which are tracking people and not iPhones! This comes via MacRumors which had a reader who emailed Mr. Jobs and asked him about it.
Q: Steve,
Could you please explain the necessity of the passive location-tracking tool embedded in my iPhone? It’s kind of unnerving knowing that my exact location is being recorded at all times. Maybe you could shed some light on this for me before I switch to a Droid. They don’t track me.
A: Oh yes they do. We don’t track anyone. The info circulating around is false.

So no explanation was forthcoming for why passive location tracking was necessary because if you are looking at the world through Cupertino binoculars it seems that Android is the one who is doing the tracking and iOS does nothing of the sort.
Two people I know on Twitter responded to my posting of the Mac Rumor post with these remarks (oh, and they’re both iPhone users in case you were wondering):
“What a liar! #lame”
and
“With bold-faced lies like that, looks like he’s obviously pretty concerned about a certain competitor. #android”
Is Apple concerned with Android phones competing with Apple’s rise as a phone power? I don’t know. I personally think Jobs sort of wants to see how much he can get away with in terms of feeding BS to the public, especially the fan boys and girls, while telling them it’s really steak and if they’ll believe it or not. It is absolutely true that Apple does provide a superb user experience on their products (the brief amounts I have used them and via everyone else’s reports…I am probably one of the only people in the world who has never owned an Apple product…not for any reason other than never finding the need for one). As well, their marketing is almost on another level making people believe their products are the most advanced and best on the market even if they aren’t really.
Let’s see if Steve can convince the public that the problem isn’t with iPhones but that everyone outside the Cupertino bubble has been getting it all wrong and really it is Android devices which are doing the tracking. As the character Verbal in the movie ‘The Usual Suspects’ said: ”The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” If Apple can convince the world that this issue doesn’t exist and is really an issue with their competitors’ devices that will certainly be one for the record books!
