Tracking Data is Being Collected on iOS Devices

It had been revealed earlier this week that Apple devices have been collecting the location information of its users since June 2010. This information includes where the person has been and when, collected at random intervals.
It’s unclear why Apple has been doing this, and it appears that they have been storing the unencrypted information on the devices themselves, as well as the computers that they’ve been synced to. If you own an iPhone or iPad, and would like to see this information, you can download an application that lets you do that here.
It’s unclear why Apple has been doing this without explicitly informing people and the Senator of Minnesota, Al Franken, has now made an inquiry into this .
Storing this information is potentially dangerous for the reason of identity theft. Many are speculating on why this data is being collected: from Apple using it for marketing purposes, to the prospect of a future application needing this information. CNN has generously posted an article “iPhone Tracking: What you need to know.”
Do you feel uneasy that Apple has been doing this? For those that are already checking-in on foursquare, does this affect you at all? Sound off in the comments!
