Android on track to become the number one mobile OS in the world?

Are you ready for the invasion of the lil’ green men?
Whether we like it or not, Google’s Android platform has been positioned to dominate for a long time now. Even Canada — which is normally slow with ANY kind of adoption — has embraced it whole heartedly. The days of walking down the street and seeing either a BlackBerry or iPhone in an eager users’ hands are slowly fading as our home carriers release truck loads of new, more powerful Android devices, seemingly by the week.
Yesterday Google released their Q1 2011 financial results and the results are, well, staggering. Google’s revenue increased by 27% from last year to hit $8.58 billion — and that isn’t even Android specific. Google’s Jeff Huber also had this to report: ”the number of Android activations are upwards of 350,000 per day”, even more shocking, Huber stated the number of apps installed on devices has jumped by 50% since Q4 2010 to reach an astronomical 3 billion — wow.
Research firm IDC also announced that by the end of 2011, the Android platform will have 39.5% of the global market share and finally officially become the number one mobile OS in the world. Surprised? I’m not.
