Editors note and Winners Announcement:

First and foremost: my apologies on the delayed announcement of this contest. Over the past two weeks I had a personal matter to attend to that consumed me, causing me to take a step back from both work and running the website. Alas, the matter is now resolved and I am slowly easing back into my day-today routine; so thank you for all your support, patience and understanding.

The winner of the WoWeeOne Portable speaker is Josh D. Congratulations! Please email contact at thecellularguru dot com to claim your prize! And thanks to all who entered!

I love music; actually, I adore it, period. So when ANY company approaches me to review their product — if it even remotely relates to music — I get giddier than a school girl seeing Justin Bieber in person. Sorry I had to drop the Biebs, it was really the only way to express my excitement.

Anyhoo, back on point; in addition to loving music, I also travel a lot and depend heavily on some sort of portable gizmo to play my music. Yes, I do own countless headphones — all of which I love equally, for the record — but, sometimes, when I am in a hotel room or feel like being extremely obnoxious in a public setting — yup I’m THAT guy — headphones just won’t cut it (I want to hear my music, not just listen). And as much as I would love to act like an OG from Public Enemy by fluffing out my Jew-fro and carrying an old boom box on my shoulder, blasting my Lil’Wayne or Wu-Tang Clan, I am pretty sure it just wouldn’t fly.

This is where my lil’ friend WOWee One enters the picture; the thing rocks, literally. The sound that comes out of it can put speakers double its size to shame, it’s small enough to travel in a briefcase, and has a chrome finish adding the extra “cool” factor. While with most portable speakers you are left with a very flat, plain sounding song — something the producer himself would probably cringe at — the WOWee One out-performs drastically, adding a level of rich sound found in systems twice its size.

A few other key standout features that deserve notable mention:

The internal power supply: the mastermind engineers at WOWee embedded the bad-boy into the box, thus eliminating the chances of music less traveling should you forget to charge it and not have spare batteries — ingenious idea if you ask me. All you need is a Mini-USB chord and it will charge right off your laptop or via wall outlet.

The washable, non-stick rubber base: like a good pair of boxers, I appreciate security and this base offers just that; it’s sticky, but doesn’t stick; tough but not too hard; and offers comfort that when placed down on a foundation, the lil’ bugger won’t go anywhere.

Works with everything: if you think the WOWee One is ONLY for your phone, think again. It works like butter with laptops as well, adding that extra bit of sound when the standard speakers just won’t cut it (or you haven’t invested in Beats by Dre internal speakers).

Overall, this speaker hasn’t left my side since I got it at CES this past January. It is an invaluable investment if you are a stickler for sound and your laptop speakers, headphones, or ear buds just won’t cut it.

Pick up the WOWee One portable speaker $79.99 via the SoulR Products online shop here.

I could say I was on my way to a concert when my car ran out of gas, while I was syphoning gas I burst into flames. I finished the 600 mile hike on fire and fought thousands… no millions of zombies along the way all for Justin Bieber.
To be honest though, the most extreme thing I have done was travel 200 miles painted like a clown to catch ICP in concert. Before we headed out though my friend the driver had to stop at the DMV for a copy of his liscense. As I mentioned earlier, my face was painted like a clown. Never have I received so many stares up until then. Wow… good times.

The only concert I have been lucky enough to see live was Kenny Rogers. And saw Alabama at a county fair.

High on acid in a pink Limousine driving from Hamilton to Toronto when I was 18 to see the Grateful Dead at Canada’s Wonderland. =)

i love music, but i dont gravitate towards artists/bands, i have a list of favorite songs not artists so i dont have a grand story interms of catching a band. As for the device, my laptop speakers were always weak and one of them died a while back, so i use the iphone to listen music and it drains the battery, the portable speaker would give new life to my laptop.

I love music. I remember when I was a teen and sneaking to see a band play in co. Limerick. My brother played with them. I was supposed to meet my then girlfriend that night and gave her some excuse only for her to catch me getting on the bus. That was 42 years ago and I still love music.

Lets see… I drove from Chicago to New York City to see a DJ I liked. Drove Chicago to Milwaukee to see Dropkick Murphys once. Left my brother in the hospital after a 12 hour back surgery to go see Flogging Molly once. I did bring him a t-shirt though. I think the greatest length I went to though was catching rides with 3 different friends, using public transportation, and a cab to get to a Sex Pistols show.
