Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1 Released Into App World

Today, BlackBerry announced on their blog the official launch of their new Twitter client which was only available in the Beta Zone until now. The new version of Twitter for BlackBerry includes new features for the app such as adding locations to your tweets and Push @Mentions (no other widely available BlackBerry Twitter app does Push @Mentions).
Although the blog post warns that it might not be available in App World just yet and to keep checking over the next 24 hours when I went to App World on the web I saw version 1.1.0.21 was available weighing in at 1526 KB and on my BlackBerry Torch when I scanned the QR code (it’s below for you) App World picked up the older version of Twitter for BlackBerry 1.0.1.12 (even after I did a hold ALT and push R+S+T and it reloaded App World).
The blog post also says that the Beta Zone testers were responsible for the Twitter app team at RIM (Research In Motion) putting in some more improvements based on the feedback and survey responses.
The new features have been detailed on the blog post but here’s a quick rundown:
- Tweet location
- Push @Mentions
- #Topic (aka Hashtag) Autocomplete
- Updated graphics and user interface
- Retweets that you retweeted will appear in your timeline so you know they were done successfully
- Support for more languages like Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Polish, Czech, and Thai.
As per usual, you can scan the QR code below with your BlackBerry to download the new app or check out the link below.
