Hot off the presses from the boys at Research In Motion (RIM) in Waterloo, Ontario is news that the BlackBerry Trade-up Program is now available in Canada! Previously seen in the USA and launched in February 2011 now existing Canadian BlackBerry customers who purchase a new BlackBerry can get up to $120 back for trading in an eligible BlackBerry. Like the American version of this program, the Canadian version is being operated by a company called The Wireless Source which is based out of Michigan.

As part of the introduction of the program it seems they are offering up to $120 for your old device (depending on its condition, age, and model I would assume). I don’t know how far down this will drop after the introductory phase is over. The list of old devices they are willing to take is pretty long and I, for fun, decided to see what a BlackBerry 8700 from Rogers Wireless would be worth if it was still fully functional, did NOT have any liquid damage or corrosion, and had a screen that’s NOT broken, damaged, or leaking….my awesome trade-up savings came back for that gem of a device at $25! (I personally think if anyone has managed to keep an 8700 in that perfect condition for this long they deserve the full $125, but that’s just me haha.)

They don’t seem to have the page available in French yet on the BlackBerry site which probably won’t go over to well for customers from Quebec (even though they offer Videotron customers to trade-up. Also, seems if you are a Fido customer you are being left out of this one (unless they mean for you to click on Rogers Wireless). The carriers listed on the trade in page are:

  • Aliant
  • Bell
  • Koodo Mobile
  • Loudring
  • Mobilicity
  • MTS
  • Rogers Wireless
  • SaskTel
  • TBayTel
  • TELUS
  • Videotron
  • Virgin Mobile
  • WIND Mobile
