As of yesterday morning, the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi has been made available to Canadian consumers for online purchase from electronics retailers Best Buy and Future Shop. According to the press release issued by Motorola Mobility Canada, a subsidiary of Motorola Mobility, the XOOM will be available (physically) in those stores across Canada beginning April 8. However, contrary to this press release, my friend’s wife bought him one yesterday from the Best Buy location in Toronto and I called them and asked if I could purchase one today and was told it wouldn’t be a problem. I then called a Future Shop location Toronto and they said that they had just sold their last one but I would have to have pre-ordered it to buy it today. A different Future Shop in the Toronto area told me a different story however, so if you want one and didn’t pre-order just look around, they seem to be available.

However you choose to buy one the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi is selling for $599.99 at Future Shop and Best Buy online and in-store.

The XOOM as previous posts have mentioned is quite a hot little piece of computing hardware. It is the first tablet available in Canada to run the Honeycomb platform of the Android OS (Honeycomb is also known as Android 3.0). To reiterate what has been said already the Motorola XOOM has a 10.1″ widescreen HD display, supports HDMI out, has a 5MP rear facing camera which can record video in HD as well as 2MP front facing camera for video chats. The XOOM supports a recent beta release of Adobe Flash Player versio n10.2 which XOOM owners can download for their device from he Android Market.

A slew of (official) accessories have also been made available along with the XOOM’s release these include:

- A Standard Dock for watching video or listening to music through external speakers (which are not included with this dock) as the device charges.

- A Speaker HD Dock which allows you to send HD content directly from your XOOM to a TV as well as allowing you to listen to music through two built-in speakers. So you wouldn’t need to attach external speakers like with the Standard Dock.

- A specialized keyboard that connects to the XOOM via Bluetooth and features Android shortcut keys and runs on 2 AA batteries.

- A Portfolio Case which protects your XOOM on the go and acts as a stand for the XOOM when it is in use and keeps the XOOM compatible with the Speaker HD Dock and the Standard Dock.
