In the totally over-saturated world of cross-platform messaging apps, WhatsApp has prevailed as a force to be reckoned with. It works great, gets updated regularly, is quick, clean and an extremely reliable alternative to BBM — for those trying to kick the addiction and move to a different OS platform. The only real downside to using WhatsApp is that in order to talk to someone, you need to give them your phone number; whereas most other IM apps offer a username instead.

Today WhatsApp pushed out a vital update to BlackBerry users stating it fixes “Major CPU and memory issues”. I have updated, but haven’t noticed a huge difference in speed or usability.
