Sony Ericsson Shows Off Xperia PLAY Due Out This Spring Exclusively On Rogers

Today we got invited to a special showing of the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY which is due out in the spring exclusively on Rogers.
The play is a full fledged smartphone as well as being the first PlayStation certified smartphone. It features a 4″ capacitive multi-touch display, will ship with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and a Snapdragon 1 GHZ processor. As well, it features a separate 2.205 GPU for processing the PlayStation gaming at 60 fps (frames per second) without slowing down. It has a 5 MP back camera as well as a VGA front facing camera for video calling.
The device, as pictured above, features full PlayStation controls so that you won’t have to use the touch screen to control your game which is something that the Sony Ericsson folks told us most game developers appreciate. HOWEVER, of course, the game developer can choose to use on screen controls if they so desire.
The phone was designed by the same person who designed the PlayStation 3 controller so it feels really good in the gamer’s hand even after hours of gaming. It will come with 6 preloaded games which are going to be FULL games and not demos. These games will include Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, EA Sports FIFA ’10, Madden NFL ’11, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, and Tetris.
The PLAY will be launching in both black & white colors and will have a 1500 mAh battery. As well, there is going to be a desktop stand accessory which Sony Ericsson sees a price point as probably being in the $39.99 range which will be the DK-300 (pictured below).
The DK-300 will turn your PLAY into a nice night table clock and has outputs for the stereo sound should you want to plug in your phone to your sound system. As you can see in the picture below it has a place for a weather widget so that when you wake up the weather is right in front of you along with the time.
We also got a video of how the Xperia PLAY responds to a phone call while you are in the middle of gaming and have posted it below.
