What percentage of active Android devices run 2.2?

Alright, it’s nothing new that the phenomenon known as Google’s Android OS is rapidly growing — actually it’s staggering how fast to be honest. Being said, with the growth comes the added confusion between all the different OS versions currently on the market: 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc. and the list will continue to grow.
Have you ever wondered of the list, which OS is most prominent on users’ devices? Well, the numbers are in and it shouldn’t shock anyone:
Android 2.2 (Froyo) currently powers 61.3% of all in-market Android devices, followed by Android 2.1 (Eclair) at 29%, and Android 1.5 (Cupcake) at 3% and 1.6 (Donut) at 4.8% respectively — interesting. If you are wondering about Android’s newest entrance 2.3 (Gingerbread) it’s currently installed on only 1% of devices available. Also keep in mind that Google has plans on launching yet ANOTHER OS version during their IO conference in May.
