The Motorola Milestone was once a flagship Android device for both Motorola and Telus in Canada. Why? Because it came last early last year when device pickings were slim, Android hadn’t quite been adopted here as much as it has now, and it ran a then ahead of the game Android 2.1 (Eclair)

Since then things have changed, a lot. There are a bevvy of new Android devices on the Canadian market and both Froyo (2.2) and Gingerbread (2.3) are long since released (the latter not on a device officially in Canada, but many devices have received their upgrade), leaving many of the early Milestone adopters in the dark with a now aging OS. Well friends, Motorola heard the cries, stating they received “an extremely high number of requests from Milestone owners for the update”, and have officially made the update package available directly from their website.

So if you do use a Milestone, please feel free to leave a comment on your findings — I look forward to hearing only good things on this one.

UPDATE: Froyo for the Milestone was released by Motorola for the International version of the device, not the Canadian version from Telus. Therefore it has not been officially approved for use on their branded devices in Canada — though this is not to say it won’t work. We reached out to our contact at Telus who had this to comment: “Yes it should be coming but I don’t have a date beyond coming sometime this spring”. There you have it. You can in theory update, but Telus reserves the right not to cover the device until the update is made official by them.
