Are you a wireless customer in Canada and want to support relief efforts in Japan? Here’s how

This past Friday saw devastation hit Japan with one of the worlds worst natural disasters ever recorded; an earthquake that measured 9.0 on the Richter scale and a Tsunami that destroyed everything in its path, separated children from their families, and sees the death toll rising daily.

It’s at times like this, when people are most in distress around the world and need our help, that we as Canadians can unite, support, and show love however we possibly can. Over the last few days I have noticed the question pop-up numerous times in my Twitter timeline asking ”CellGuru, I’m with X carrier, what initiatives are available if I want to donate?” Well my friends, I have reached out to the big 3 and found out for you — read below:

Telus, Kudo, Bell, Virgin, Rogers and Fido Customers:

Text “Quake” (78253) to 45678 to donate $10 to the Salvation Army

Text “Asia” or “Asie” (2148) to 30333 to donate $5 to the Canadian Red Cross

Text “Give” (4483) to 45678 to donate $5 to Unicef Canada

Please, I urge you, $5-$10 isn’t a lot of money to donate and Japan needs us right now more than ever. (if you are unsure of how to text to a short code just ask me on Twitter)

**Please note that NO credit card is required to do this, the charges will be added to your wireless bill or deducted from your prepaid balance and 100% of each donation will go to the chosen charity**

before you donate, consider the facts of where your money is going and how much power to help your donation will give:

UNICEF is said to be about .14 cents per dollar make it to charity. (CEO takes in about $1,200,000 per year + expenses including a rolls royce that is transported to any country he goes to.)

Red Cross is second worst with about .39 per dollar making it to chairity. (CEO took in over $600,000 in salary + bonuses, including an all expense paid tropical vacation for her and her entire family last year)

United Way gets about .51 to the people who need it. (CEO takes in over $300,000)

Salvation Army - .91 per dollar after all overhead. (Commissioner takes in $19,000 + housing (cant find any numbers on what that is…) )

So who is in this as a business? who is in this to do good for people?

I’ve just texted x 3 to the Salvation Army number code and it felt great. Thanks to the commenter for exposing the rot in the other “aid” agencies. It’s pretty obvious whom they’re aiding.
