Bluetooth file sharing for iOS; yup, you read that right

The other day we spoke of a Cydia repo called “Mobile Notifier” that fixes one of the worst parts of the iOS environment: its notification system. Well, another one was brought to my attention today that I felt should have its due time in the spotlight as well; it’s called “Celeste” by Cocoanuts, and it could easily be one of the best things to happen to the iPhone since FaceTime. But what does it do? Instead of telling you right off the bat, I want to give you a story illustrating its usefulness, so you can have a total understanding of its awesomeness.
You are bored in a coffee shop, pretending to do work, procrastinating life and deciding what to do next with it, when suddenly from across the café a phone rings, it’s that ringtone you have wanted for ages, but didn’t really want to pay for. So, you get up, walk over, and politely ask the person… “Can you please send me that, I love the song!” Unsurprisingly the stranger says sure and whips out their BlackBerry and says, “Here you go… have fun.” But, R’uh R’oh, life ain’t all peaches and cream; as it turns out you have an iPhone and iPhones don’t do Bluetooth file sharing, right? While normally, you would be forced to come up with excuses as to why you can’t figure it out and try to walk away with some dignity, there is now a solution for this awful error in judgement from Apple — it’s called Celeste.
Celeste enables your iPhone to do Bluetooth file transfers, a seemingly standard feature left out of iOS by Apple. As Cocoanuts states on their blog: “For the first time ever in the history of the iPhone, with the upcoming release of Gremlin, you will be able to sync downloaded songs and videos back to iTunes! And because Celeste comes with Gremlin for free, that means any songs and videos you receive over Bluetooth will act exactly as if you’d bought them from the iTunes store” — utter epicness.
Once this app gets released into the Cydia Repo (iPhone jailbreak community) it will not only make life a lot easier for sharing music with friends, but add the extra umph in customization to your already liberated iPhone — eat that Apple.
Despite not giving an exact price or release date, Cocoanuts is running a contest right now to win 2 licenses of the forthcoming app. Just fill out this form and hope your number is the lucky one; you can also follow the dev team here for more info on Celeste and the other apps in their catalog.
