According to Business Insider’s source at Microsoft, the next iteration of Windows - Windows 8 - should be ready enough to be shown off in its tablet optimized format at the end of the fiscal year, in June.

The source went on to say that this time around Microsoft is designing the user interface much more like one of their arch-rivals, Apple. The new design will borrow from the interface designated as “Metro” which was developed for and is used on Windows Phone 7.

Only time will tell if Business Insider’s source’s information pans out. Of course, even if they’re accurate on their info today as we all know, in the tech world anything can change at any time and delays are not unexpected. Are you looking forward to this new release? It will be interesting to see, that’s for sure. This is especially true because if I recall correctly this will be the first time Microsoft has released an OS with tablet use in mind for the OS from the ground up and not reconfiguring it after the fact.
