BlackBerry Bold Touch (Montana) Spotted In The Wild

Well, well, well, what do we have here? The bad mama-jamma of BlackBerry urban legends, the BlackBerry Bold Touch (or Montana for those who keep up with code names). Finally, a real, non photo-shopped shot of one of the most sought after BlackBerry devices. But, you may be asking: “What makes this device so special?”, well my dear friends, i’ll tell you. Its predecessor, the BlackBerry Bold 9000 was a flagship device for many reasons; not only because it was the first commercially launched 3G BlackBerry device in North America, but because keyboard, screen size and feel were second to none. The only real downfall was the meager 128MB RAM, which heavily slowed down the device when loaded with apps (although apps weren’t nearly as popular then as they are now). Well, RIM heard the consumer cries, and a year later released the Bold 9700, a smaller, sleeker device, packed with double the RAM and a new Camera with flash and auto-focus. But where did that leave the chubby fingered people like me, who loved the size and feel of the Bold 9000? In the dark, that’s where! For years fan-boys took the to BlackBerry forums pleading for answers, but to no avail. Even with rumors of a then codenamed “Pluto” touchscreen Bold, RIM wasn’t responding and leaks were running dry.
Well, fast forward a few years; RIM has come a long way with their devices, touchscreen/keyboard hybrids are being released by the truckload, and RIM needs a new BlackBerry device to really put them back on the map. What better timing to release this bad-boy into the wild. Here are the specs. it is rumored to have:
- Dimensions: 115 x 66 x 10.5mm
- Radio: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE; Tri Band UMTS
- Display: 2.8″ diagonol - VGA 640 x 480, resolution 287dpi
- Camera: 5mp - Flash - Image Stabilization - HD Recording (720p)
- Navigation: Capacitive Touch, Optical Trackpad
- Keypad: Wide QWERTY - Physical Send, End, Escape, Menu, Right Side Convenience Key, Volume Control
- Memory: 8GB - 768MB RAM - up to 32GB MicroSd Card
- WiFi: 2.4 GHZ b/g/n - 5GHz a/n - Mobile Hotspot
- Connectivity: Micro USB - Bluetooth - NFC
- Sensors: Magnetometer - Accelerometer - Proximity
From the pictures below, it seems like this is the exact device everyone has been waiting for. Let’s just hope its performance matches its looks.
