Oh the irony! A day after winning best smartphone of 2010, comes some news that is sure to get Apple’s PR team working overtime to “fix”.

Here is the shinny of how things went down, right from the source, a man named Omar:

“The phone got hot then started smoking then blew up. My wife and kid were in the room and it set off my fire alarm. It slighty burned my had when I tried to pick it up. Basically the battery caught on fire.”

Funny part of this is that Omar (using simulated fire) created a video re-enactment of the events, have a watch:

Word is that he has already contacted Apple about this, we will update as we know more… or if Apple responds publicly.
