Kik, the BlackBerry Messenger-esque app that took the world by storm in the latter part of 2010 and then got sued by RIM (Research In Motion) and removed from BlackBerry App World has reached quite a milestone to ring in the New Year of 2011. Their app has hit the 3 million user mark according to a press release from the company today. According to their press release the app has been growing at an astounding rate of 10-15,000 users per day.

Kik also announced some new features coming soon to the app in 2011. These features include picture messaging, group chat (conferencing), “an incredibly powerful and unique technology that wirelessly connects users’ smartphones to any PC or TV“, and a service for mobile streaming music.

Some new features that have already been added to Kik recently are profile pictures and “a feature that lets users easily find new Kik friends“.

As well, as mentioned in the title of this post, Kik announced that they are coming soon to Windows Phone 7. They state they are currently putting the final touches on development of the app for WP7 so people with that OS will be able to join the Kik Community some time soon.

They did not, however, mention any update on the RIM lawsuit but that is not exactly surprising. Kik is being positive in this press release and blog post so it is not really a place for mud slinging or sordid details of lawsuits.
