HP Holding Event To Make webOS Announcement…Palm Not Mentioned On The Invite
Pictured above is the invite to an “exciting webOS announcement” by HP who now own the operating system after they bought Palm in 2010. It is interesting to note that the event is being hosted and put on by HP with no mention whatsoever of Palm on the invite. Does this mean that 2011 be the year that Palm ceases to be a separate entity and will be absorbed into HP entirely? Only time will tell.
The event will be held on February 9th, 10AM in San Francisco. Releasing this invite right before the beginning of CES is sure to keep everyone there buzzing about what it means and will allow HP & Palm representatives to walk around CES with smug looks and tightly closed lips amidst badgering media people trying to get a word or a sign out of them of what this all means.
Palm is getting into the spirit of changes to webOS, however. On January 4th Jon Zilber - Palm’s Online Communications Director - posted the poem below on the Official Palm Blog which tells of teams working and changes coming to webOS in 2011. The poem is called “‘Twas the Week After Christmas” and it is copied below in its entirety.
‘Twas the week after Christmas, when all over Palm
All the creatures were stirring, no mouses were calm;
More smartphones are coming in two-o-one-one,
To bring more mobility to everyone;Designers are nestled all snug in their cubes,
With visions of webOS (a series of tubes);
We’ve read all your tweetering (no need for ALL CAPS),
We all know that this ain’t a time for no naps.
Yes, out on the blogs there has been so much chatter,
You’d think it was truly a death-or-life matterThe webOS update brings goodies like Flash,
And Just Type and stacking (and won’t cost you cash).
