Windows Phone 7 users have put up with a lot of crap in the past couple months since its release. Not only do we have to live in a world without copy-and-paste, but we’ve always known that, down the road, a number of updates are in the pipeline.

Today, Paul Thurrott, Microsoft advocate and WP7 user, has confirmed a lot of what we’ve been expecting. Firstly, an announcement will likely be made tomorrow (January 6th) regarding the first update to WP7, codenamed NoDo (Not Donut, in response to the Android 1.6 iterative update) and will include, “the famed copy and paste functional addition, support for the Qualcomm 7×30 smart phone chipset, a CDMA location stack, and a number of software fixes.”

While it won’t ship until early February, it is a step in the right direction. He next goes on to talk about Mango, the “major” update to WP7 expected for later in the year. This will include more than just minor bug fixes: pieces of IE9 will be added to the browsing engine, and HTML5 and Silverlight support along with it. Gesture support and faster chipsets will also be welcome.

It is unknown whether there will be other updates before then, but it sounds like WP7 users are looking to have a very good year.

As for apps, Kindle for WP7 has been released, and Evernote will be forthcoming in the next few weeks, so stay tuned.
