Android Robot Makes An Appearance In Swiss iPad App Advertisement - And Why

To the delight of Android fans everywhere - and probably much to the chagrin of any hard core Apple evangelists - in an advertisement for the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation’s (SBC) new iPad app the Android mascot appears. The iPad app is designed so people can receive SBC multimedia such as videos, audio slideshows, podcasts, galleries, and to keep in touch with Swiss news ‘without breaking a sweat’. To add to the amusement of the Android being present in an iPad ad is the point in the ad where the Android pops its head out, right when they mention that William Tell built “an army among trusted friends“. They’re calling the Android a ‘trusted friend’ in an iPad app ad. If you want to watch the full video it is linked and embedded below. Look for the Android to make an appearance at about 39 seconds in.
You may be wondering why SBC decided to include the Android in this ad, and if some cheeky person in their digital content creation department is getting fired for it. According to a response they gave on their YouTube channel, “[A]ndroid is here as part of the details we wanted to include, in this case a hint to the fact that we cover both platforms (Android fans might want to have a look at the swissinfoandroid channel)“. So the cameo was entirely on purpose.
