Samsung Canada: Galaxy S Vibrant Froyo Upgrade Suspended Temporarily From Kies As A ‘Precaution’

Samsung Canada is having a long conversation with many customers who tried updating their Galaxy S Vibrants to Froyo (Android 2.2). Seems the update is causing the phone to become unusable (a.k.a. ‘bricking’ because about all a phone is useful for if there’s no software on it is as a brick). This update has been long waited for by Galaxy S Vibrant owners (Samsung Galaxy Captivate and Fascinate customers are still waiting but are expecting to receive an upgrade shortly) but now it looks like they’re going to have to wait even longer because as a result of all these issues, Samsung has announced on their Facebook page that they “are taking the extra precaution of temporarily suspending the upgrade as a download from Kies.”
The full announcement from the Facebook page is pictured above and linked below. HOWEVER if you are having the problems notice in the graphic above I’ve highlighted that although Samsung initially posted a 1-800 number when it is really a 1-888 number so don’t be confused if you call the first one and hear the number is not in service. They have not, as of writing, posted a new status with the correct number.
All the updates on this issue from Samsung will be done via their Facebook page here as is evidenced by the tweet you see pasted below and linked here. The ow.ly link that is posted there just redirects to the Samsung Canada Facebook page (also notice they have put the correct toll free number in the tweet).
