Rogers Starts Offering Customers Unlock Codes Today

Remember a few weeks ago when Telus announced they would begin openly offering customers device unlock codes via their customer service? A first in Canada amongst the big three (though many will argue that Bell was first, but they never openly admitted to doing it, thus the difference)?
Well, Rogers has officially one-upped their counterparts. Effective today Tuesday December 14th 2010, Rogers has begun to offer customers unlock codes for their devices for a charge of $50 through customer service (quite steep considering they go for next to nothing amongst third party online retailers). There are some conditions to this though:
- Account MUST be in good standing
- CANNOT be on a termed agreement, or must have paid the non- subsidized cost at least 30 days prior
- MUST consent to having the charge applied to your account
So essentially if you are on contract with Rogers, you are out of luck on this one. Kind of ludicrous in my opinion for numerous reasons, mainly the fact that most are on termed agreements and want the code to simply be more cost efficient when traveling.
Anyways, word is out: Rogers is obliging, surprised? Not me.
