Although not much of a shock that it exists (RIM is known for “refreshing” their more popular devices), being outed first by the FCC is what really baffles me.

Historically speaking most smaller, relatively unknown blogs get their 15 minutes of fame with scoops like this; whether the device is a big deal or not. This being said the BlackBerry 8980 is now out, and is a refresh of the very popular 8900 or “Javellin” series of Quadband EDGE devices. Cosmetically it only has a few minor changes (other than the obvious trackpad replacing the trackball) with the top resembling the 9700 and the bottom (keyboard included) keeping true to its previous 8900 style. Other than cosmetics and the probable inclusion of BlackBerry6, not much else is known carrier or release related of this forthcoming device.

Will update as we know more, but it should only be a matter of time.
