This is the Telus version of the ubiquitous, and ridiculously successful, Galaxy S line from Samsung. The phone is equipped with a 4″ Super AMOLED touchscreen, 1Ghz Hummingbird processor, 512MB RAM, 16GB internal hard drive, 5MP camera, WiFi, GPS, and it runs on Android 2.1 (soon upgradeable to 2.2!)

The only perceivable difference between this phone and the Bell version is the lack of a hardware Home button and the further lack of a front-facing camera, which is a little disappointing, as they didn’t augment those losses with anything appreciable such as an LED flash for the camera. Oh, well. This phone is pretty darn pretty, and it’s available for $149.99 on a 3-year contract, or $529.99 without one.

BUT…

If you like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter (@thecellularguru), and answer the question below, we will pick the best answer to win a brand new Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+ from Telus!

All you need to do is comment below, answering the question: how has your smartphone changed your life, and how would owning the Fascinate change it even more for the better? Be creative, be funny, be yourself!

Contest closes Friday, December 3rd, 2010. Open, unfortunately, only to Canadian residents (policies and exporting and blah blah blah legal stuff).

Good luck!

Nice overview Daniel, count me in for the contest though.. Need some of that Galaxy S love!

  • Hmcnaron

I juggle a lot of different lives- personal, family, work, volunteer- and I used to always forget my appointments and phone numbers. I started to carry around multiple calendars just so I wouldn’t forget things but that was ridiculous. My smart phone has helped me both integrate my calendars and keep my lives separate- so when I’m at home, I can ignore what I need to ignore on my phone and read what emails I WANT to read (or tweets, as the case might be).
This phone would completely upgrade from the specs of my current smartphone which is already pretty outdated. And I could use the GPS to not get lost all the time!

  • Praneet

The phone that changed my life was the Palm Treo 700. It was an awesome phone. It had a full keyboard and a touch screen! Everything just worked. It was fast and smooth.

How the samsung would change things for me? Well I’m a phone addict. I need to be connected all the time. With a new android phone I can be creative. I’m a photoaholic and the 5mp camera would allow me to always be ready to take the perfect shot.

  • Bhiggins

My Smartphones over the years have helped me keep my life organized. plain and simple I would be lost without one. I would love to win this Samsung as I have never owned a Android device, long time Blackberry user. And that screen looks just amazing!!! great video, great site…. hope I win!

I have been using smartphones for about 8 years now. How have smartphones changed my life? Over the years, I’ve become so dependent on smartphones that I’ve actually become more lazy and dumber.
I need a new smartphone to regain control of my life! Am I am smartphone addict? perhaps?

hey, I dunt no wut i’d do witout phone… wuers the speel chk on this phone? why duz my phne hve a 15″ screen? i dunt rmbr it being a flipphone?… ahhh…

How could the Galaxy S Fascinate change my life? Well, everything would change!

With the 5 mp pixels, I will be able to show my friends that I can make incredible éclairs. Soon enough, I will make Froyo desserts for those who complained that éclairs were too fat.
With the Fascinate in hand, I will be able to call a café rendez-vous at my home to eat all those tasty desserts. But knowing my friends, no one would answer their phone. I will have to SWIPE my message over the 4 inch AMOLED screen and send it by text or by Gmail. I could make an invite from the Facebook app from Android but I deleted my Facebook account. Tired of Facebook… I am more a Twitter fan now.
I will probably call my aunt in France using Google Voice credits to get some advises on creating good desserts. She might reveal me this time her secret recipe for gingerbreads cookies. It’s been a long time I am waiting to discover it. I am sure if I film my culinary exploits using the Fascinate camera, she might be more inclined to divulgate me her recipe. I might have to make a few tries with the filming, but I will never run out of space with the internal 16 Gigs and my 32 Gigs external memory. I’ll send her the video using my Wi-Fi connection because otherwise I may exceed my data plan.
Did I tell you she had friends at Google? I am sure she knows the Grand Chef of the Google cafeteria. I heard the company is doing so well because they make terrific desserts! Who would know that creating desserts would make them so successful? The latest rumor about them is that employees are engaged in beekeeping. Sounds crazy, no?
Anyway, with the Galaxy S Fascinated, I will engage in a new conversation with my friends and family about my love of desserts!

My life would change drastically simply cuz I need an upgrade from my Samsung Double Flip… which i love, love, love by the way, but yeah, this would be awesome.
Not sure I’d switch to Telus though so…
Hope it’s an unlocked one :-)

Society can be cruel sometimes. For years, these smartphone users would mock and make fun of me and my trusty LG Chocolate and LG Shine dumbphones. “WTF is that?”, “Can you text on that antique?”, “There’s an app for that, but you can’t use it” would be what I would hear over and over again.

Then one day, it all changed when I bought my shiny new BlackBerry Bold. All proud, I thought to myself, “Let’s see these jerks mock me now!”. What happened next was not what I expected… Instead of the end of all the mocking, the mocking changed. Now I’d hear things like “How do you read anything on that tiny screen?”, “How come this app doesn’t open when I touch it?”, “These websites look like crap!”.

So my quest continues to avoid society’s cruel ways… No doubt, a new Samsung Fascinate would help me achieve this.

  • Davy

My smart phone has enabled me to stay connected in so many ways both socially and professionally. The fascinate will keep me even more connected as I am sure the battery will last longer than that of my current phone!

  • Aznzzboi

    Omg!
    I like this phone.
I’m stuck with my Nokia N95 for over 2 years…

Having a smartphone changed my life and opened up a brand new world for me. I don’ think I would be in social media and blogging if I didn’t have one. Although I own a Blackberry I think it’s about time for a change and I’ve been in the market for a touch screen phone that lets me take advantage of the internet more robustly and let me really blog and communicate on the go. Ever since AndroidTO I’ve taken a heavy interest in Android phones as they really changes the market and open new possibilities for developers and comsumers alike.

  • Alex

Well as humans get dumber, we need to rely on our phones being smarter ! I am the go to guy now in my group of friends, not for my intelligence, but for my ability to find the answer to just about everything in an instant. My answers would surely come quicker with this phone than my current smartphone.

i don’t even have a smartphone! you’ve seen that hunk of junk that i tweet from! lol! a motorolla krzr! i might as well have a huge shoebox phone from the 1990s! lol! so having a smartphone would deffo change my life because for the first time ever i’d be able to (gasp) CHECK MY EMAIL on my phone? WHAAAAAAAAAAT??! and like, check my facebook ON MY PHONE??!! and listen to music ON MY PHONE?!! and watch youtube videos ON MY PHONE? it’s like a whole new universe! lol!

I would finally be able to develop for Android. I could show all of my friends just how awesome Android is and show off my Fascinate that I won from the Cellular Guru. I could play some awesome games and type reports right on my phone so I wouldn’t have to go back home to my computer. I could use all the apps that Apple won’t approve. I could finally have complete customization options so my phone won’t be boring anymore. I could listen to all my favorite songs, watch movies or tv shows on the giant 4 inch screen. It would just be amazing.

this phone is the perfect replacement for my Blackberry

  • http://twitter.com/baronlam Baron Lam

Wow, you just cut and paste my comment in it’s entirety huh? Good work. I wonder if the Samsung Fascinate has a plagiarism app…

  • Andy Prosserman

My smartphone has changed my life by taking away all the productivity I once had & isolating me from my wonderful gf. Why study, work or pay attention to her when I’ve got this magical 4″ screen of amoled wonderment in front of my eyes?

How will winning the Fascinate change my life? It would save my relationship! I love her, but I don’t think she enjoys being neglected in favor of a smartphone, so what better way to even the odds than by giving her a shiny new Fascinate so she can neglect me as much I neglect her?

    It’s the perfect relationship.

Plus she keeps telling me how badly she needs a new phone, but can’t afford one, since the god-knows-how-old piece of crap she has now has taken to randomly shutting off & only making/receiving calls & texts when it feels like it.

So why should I win the Fascinate? For love.

You don’t hate love, Cellular Guru… do you?

  • http://openid.aol.com/robatflemish Rob

I’d love to have an Android phone. My first smartphone was a BB pearl and I couldn’t believe how much I used it for email & twitter. I’m sure moving to this keep me away from the desktop even moreso.

  • Alexander_ekin

Smart phone is my life style, he change my life from motor freak, now im gadget man. I love use smartphone and i have 3 now. Fascinate is awesome android with super amoled lcd and humingbird processor 1ghz. And very fast device. I love it very much. I hope it will be my awesome christmas present. Thanks the cellular guru

  • Aaron

My smartphone allows me to connect with friends even when I’m away from my home computer. Owning the Fascinate will allow my angry ex-gf to track me with Google Latitude and other location-aware services… if I allow. :)

  • Easywayup

Smartphones have been such a blessing for me. I can now make all the appointments for the rest of my life and not be late for any of them. I keep my kids entertained on long trips and I find my way to the place I need to go with the gps feature. If I win the fascinate, it would be awesome and a blessing. The fascinate is the most vibrant, captivating device I have ever seen. Watching movies on the fascinate will make me never want to watch movies on another device, until the Fascinate2.

  • Anonymous

The #1 way my smartphones have changed my life is by being connected in every way, anywhere I go. All of my contacts, emails, blogs, social networks, RSS feeds, Skype, etc. are in my pocket all of the time. I’m a communication monster because of this thing. The Fascinate would make my life easier by having a decent Twitter client (still lacking on on the Nokia N900), Android’s second to none notification system and heavy integration with my Google accounts which is a pain to sync with other device.

  • http://twitter.com/JulieTyios Julie Tyios

I didn’t get my first smartphone until I was out of university. I had been working as a consultant for 6 years, and Wi-Fi STILL wasn’t free in most coffeeshops. (Data sticks what??) Through my BB I quickly built my new business, Red Juice Media, mainly because I could access email and web sites anywhere on the go, leaving me free to travel and pick up new clients. Game changer! If I won the Fascinate, it would be such an awesome sidekick that I probably wouldn’t even need to get out of bed in the morning. In fact, I might even retire… well, at least my BB Curve 8310. My current phone probably costs me more in lost productivity than the Fascinate sells for new, but for some reason I still can’t seem to part with it. Help??

  • http://twitter.com/_jamesmack James Mack

Society will crumble and my life will be forever changed.

Just kidding… I would probably trade it for a BlackBerry 9780

  • http://twitter.com/Cyric78 Mike Fehr

The first smartphone I had was a HTC Diamond, and it opened up a whole new world of connectivity. Having the internet at my fingertips let me stay connected with everyone I know. Having the Fascinate with take it to the next level. With Android on it, the readily available apps and Google integration will allow me to explore new possibilities for starting my business! The quality of the camera, the speed of the phone, the big, beautiful screen will all make things alot easier and smoother for me!

    my itty bitty blackberry
    just don’t cut it anymore
out came android and blew bb away
now comes and chance to have android for me

hi the cellular guru good day!my name is karl navarro and i am a student. If you ask me how has smartphone changed my life then i would say that smartphone has created indeed a great impact in MY LIFE haha for it helped me in my studies , in escaping from studies =), in communicating with other people such as asking for homeworks, schedules of the examz and somewhat asking for answers in my homeworks ahaha, it also helped me in making friends ( thankz to smartphone i have many friends! haha) and the most important thing is that it keeps me close from my loved ones MY FAMILY…thankz to smartphone i could communicate to them coz my parents are both working abroad..and through it i could capture a picture of all my great and sad memories in life! • Brian Hensler

How would the Galaxy S Fascinate change my life?
as of now, I’ve been using the bare minimum as far as cell phones go. I’ve never texted. I’ve taken the occasional picture with very unsatisfactory results.
    The screen size/clarity is amazing.
It would be a cell phone I’d be proud to own and display.

  • http://twitter.com/Rojigga Dan Rojas

I had a Motorola Milestone until someone decided they liked it enough to swipe it from me the other night. The Milestone was my first smartphone and until I used it I had no idea how useful it could be, whether it was keeping contact via e-mail with contractors I do business with or just organizing my basketball team through facebook. With my phone now gone, going back to my amazingly old LG flip was a rough pill to swallow; although I can’t complain as it still works! The Samsung Fascinate looks like a great phone, just not one I can afford right now.

  • http://twitter.com/Rojigga Dan Rojas

I had a Motorola Milestone until someone decided they liked it and swiped it from me the other night. The Milestone was my first smartphone and to say it changed the way I thought about the mobile experience would be a dramatic understatement. I took the plunge when a lot of the contractors I deal with were constantly asking to business through email, and keeping up with meetings was beginning to be a mess. Never thought It would change my life as much as it has. With it gone the LG flip I reverted to is something that has left much to be desired (although I can’t complain as it still works!). The Samsung Fascinate seems like a nice phone, just not one I can afford right now.

  • http://twitter.com/amritchahil Amrit Chahil

Woow what I would do without my smartphone. It has definitely changed my life for the better. I currently own a HTC Touch Pro 2 and even thought it is running the dated Windows Mobile OS it still does have great PDA capabilities which are always useful as I am a university student and always need to be organized. I use my smartphone to do a lot of research while I am on the go checking Wikipedia, forums and businessweek to make sure I am well prepared for all of my classes. Another part I love about my smartphone is the way it always allows me to be connected to all of my friends using Facebook mobile, Twitter mobile etc. This saves me a lot of time as I don’t need to waste my time by going on the computer and using the social networking sites in that sense. Rather it is in my hand and ready to go.

The way in which the Galaxy S would change my life is it would definitely allow me to do much more tasks in a more effective and efficient fashion. As you know I currently run a dated Windows Mobile device which crashes and freezes quite often, the Galaxy S with its superb processor and amazing screen will let me complete everything which I need to do much faster so I will be able to spend more time doing things which matter to me.

I just wanted to add in a few more points here of where I see the trend of smartphones in the future. As I am a business student we study trends in our classes and one which interested me is the trend of how smartphones have changed the way business is conducted. I learned that every company has to change the way their conduct their business as Generation X and Y is leading the change of using mobile devices to conduct their business. If companies refuse to allow this change it is just a matter of time before they fail. Also as smartphones continue to evolve their will be a sense of consumerization in the enterprise IT sector of business. And this trend will be a very fun one to watch and see how businesses will handle the new ways of conducting business.

Anyways great way to get the people involved guys! I am very happy to see Canadians get involved in new ways of reaching the people. As we see most of these reviews and contests for Americans. Awesome Job Cellular Guru!!! And I hope you pick me for the contest :-)

The smartphone has changed my life, by giving me the ability to leave my house, without the stress of not being connected to all my web addictions. With the ability to leave the house with the security of a phone clutched firmly in my hands, I can get out, enjoy some sun, see friends I have only Skyped with, the world is calling me again.

Its quality over quantity when it comes to these giveaway contests, and I think I have the quality. I think that I should win this because I am stuck with stupid rogers on a stupid 8 year old blackberry which i hate! I am moving to telus soon i hope and this phone looks amazing! Having a smartphone has changed my life becuase i have been able to keep in touch with my friends that dont live in the country and my brothers who have gone off to university and I never ever see them! I really need a new phone to help me get my life organized. I use the calendar on the BB and its terrible, its impossible to use, the keys are too small and the screen is as well. My phone does not have any internet connection and its a failure because Rogers is impossible to deal with. I change carriers soon and I would love to get this phone! Please help me, the first smartphone I ever got and it was terrible, I would really like to try something new!

  • Colin

Why I want/need this Fascinate, simple to replace a 3 yr old BBpearl. The least smart smartphone, I do not think I need to elaborate further on this little phones issues. I have been tempted by the Galaxy S Fascinate for the last month or so since I have been shopping for a BIRTHDAY present to myself, note it is on Dec 2nd.
Like many, the Iphone seem to be the most obvious option then I remembered I will most likely break an Iphone in about a weeks time. The Fascinate on the other hand should last longer. From what I have read this phone has wicked web browsing, awesome screen res, and is just plain better and I deserve better for my BIRTHDAY.
Looking forward to unboxing this fascinating phone myself and connecting myself to a galaxy of information and apps in the palm of my hand.

  • Pranman

So when I got my first smartphone, life suddenly became good. I was able to mack many a chicks at the same time.

Then, as the phone got older, so did i. Met the woman of my dreams, got married and now I need to leave the old things/habits behind and find the phone of my dreams. Something that can keep me organized. Something that can help me keep up to date and organized with my added “work load”!! ;)

  • Curtis

Since i got my smart phone i have been able to receive email and surf the web without even touching my computer. My smart phone has had an extremely positive impact on my life. This new Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate would be greatly appreciated because my current phone is very slow and doesnt cut it for me anymore. i desperately need an upgrade and would love this phone.
