Some Nokia N8′s Shipping DOA?

So, word on the street is that a small number of Nokia’s flagship device N8 devices are shipping DOA (Dead on Arrival). This is the device both Nokia and Symbian fanboys alike have been yearning for since it was first announced back in April. But, is this spread across the map? Or simply limited to a bad batch shipped to Europe/Asia?
Russian writer Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-Review claims:
“Story repeat itself. Nokia N8 like 5800 has damage parts in first production volumes. N8 are dying across the world. All phones are affected.”
A Malaysian parts supplier named “Teeyf” had this to say:
“I’m from Nokia’s dealer from Malaysia. I sold several N8 to my customers. I found many of N8 was dead and can’t turn on, can’t charging even I tried the hard reset button (menu, volume down + camera key +turn on button), is no work at all …”
Meanwhile, here in Canada, there hasn’t been word of the same issues arising. I have an N8 and have experienced nothing but enjoyment using the 12Mp camera around the city.
The issue seems to be limited to devices sold/shipped overseas. Hopefully as the holidays unfold consumers in North America won’t uncover the same issue when making their purchase. Nokia does make mention, however, that the issue is covered under warranty and devices reported will be replaced.
Has anyone in Canada with an N8 discovered the same issues? Leave a comment letting us know.
Below is an official statement from Nokia’s Niklas Savander regarding the issue:
