Galaxy Tab can do anything except make phone calls — now with phone calls!

When the Galaxy Tab was released in the US, critics and fans of the device alike cried foul, loudly, at its inability to make voice calls over their respective carriers’ 3G network. While the idea of holding a 7″ tablet to one’s ear is a little ridiculous (that’s not actually how it’s done — you need a microphone-enabled headset) the opportunity to do so should be there. Carriers probably didn’t want to have to go to the trouble of setting up separate voice and data backends for this new device, especially without signing a contract.
That doesn’t mean, however, that it can’t be done. According to XDA-Developers, the T-Mobile Galaxy Tab has been hacked to allow phone calls over the carrier’s EDGE network.
While this probably won’t replace your main phone, it could augment it, or use that second T-Mo line you have lying around (if you’re into that sort of thing).
Head over to XDA-Developers for the (complicated) scoop.
