After a long triumphant run, Google will be pulling the plug on its notorious GOOG-411 toll-free 411 service today.

With everyone and their grandma’s on data plans now and Google searching becoming almost second nature, voice calls have become so passé, meaning no need for the free service anymore -sad I know.

So, GOOG-411, if you can hear me, I bid you a fond adieu and thank you for bailing me out back when texting and data weren’t an option (yes, I still remember those days).
