For those of you who don’t already know about Kik, it’s a cross platform messaging application for iOS, Android and BlackBerry that has a 1up on text messaging. Free international messaging and sent, delivery & read confirmations are some of the popular features that Kik has to offer. Kik has been updated very frequently and since its release, it has come along nicely and has become very solid. You can visit kik.com for more info. Now I’ve been using Kik messenger for 6 months and until this past week I’ve only had about 5 contacts. In the past 24 hours I’ve been messaged by over 30 new Kik contacts and counting. Why?

Upon installing Kik, it will scan your address book and let you know who else you may know that’s also using Kik. This feature is great to help you add contacts who you’d like to Kik with, but somewhat annoying when it comes to people who you may not want to communicate with via Kik. Either way, this feature helped Kik catch on like crazy. When you know a bunch of people that are alreading using a messenger, you’re more inclined to continue using it and promote it.
