It was bound to happen sooner or later.

Shortly after this summers “Antenna-gate” saga was resolved, Apple started offering Bumpers to customers at no charge through their free case case app program. (which recently expired)

Low and behold with all this talk of Bumper this and Bumper that, Apple has finally decided to trademark the term for all future Apple products pertaining to protection of devices i.e. cases, bags, sleeves etc.

In short, expect to be getting a lot more Bumper up-selling at an Apple store near you.
