Mobilicity sells out of its Nexus One stock in 24hrs, but statement is misleading

Sure, Mobile Syrup reported this morning that the Nexus One sold out of Mobilicity’s online and retail stores in less than 24hrs. But based on what I learned yesterday at the flagship Mobilicity store in Toronto at Kennedy and Lawrence, this isn’t surprising: one of the employees stated they only got 5 units into the store.
So, while this is sure to be considered a success (I saw two people in the 20 minutes I was there walk out with a brand new Nexus One, very happily) it isn’t nearly the iPhone 4-level success that Rogers suffered in the first few weeks of its release (and is still dealing with: see lines at Eatons Centre every day since July 30th).
Limited stock and Sold Out signs always create interest and demand, but let’s stay a bit skeptical at what “sold out” means in this case.
