Well, savour it, folks, for this is the beginning of the AWS high-life. In the United States, T-Mobile, after years of resting on the laurels of their G1 release, being the first to bring Android to the US market, has done little to further its proliferation, ceding greatly marketshare to its CDMA competitors, Spring and Verizon. However, light is on the Horizon, as the G2 is about to be released, sporting Android 2.2 and a host of other enhancements.

On the Canada side of things, WIND Mobile has also launched their first premium Android device, after the Huawei U8100 was released last month to stellar returns (having a low low price of $140 didn’t hurt, either). The Motorola XT720 is not a brand new device, but has never had a North American release until now. It sports an 480x854px screen, 512MB RAM, 8MP camera with Xenon flash, and Android 2.1 (hopefully upgradeable to 2.2 one day).

This is essentially the same device as a the original Milestone or Droid without a hardware keyboard, but it does have a slightly faster processor as a tradeoff.

WIND is selling the device for $430 after a $20 rebate, and, of course, no contract. Not a bad deal, especially for someone looking to take advantage of their current promotions.
