RIM avoids ban in India.. For now..

RIM has provided the Indian government with proposals for local security agencies to monitor BlackBerry services such as email and BBM when deemed necessary. In response, India has uplifted the August 31st ban and agreed to let BlackBerrys do business as usual in their country for the next 60 days while RIM’s proposals are reviewed.
There were talks earlier about RIM giving India a dedicated BlackBerry server, but it is unclear how messages could be decrypted. It’s very possible this situation is going to open up a can of worms as far as other countries relationships with RIM go. Maybe Mike Lazaridis should have stuck to his original statement, “If they can’t deal with the Internet, they should shut it off.”
