Recently there has been rumors circulating the blogosphere that Mobilicity wasn’t doing well, and in fact had plans to close their doors.

Shortly thereafter my Twitter timeline exploded, followers looked to me for answers, asking me what was going on and some even dropping tips to our hotline mentioning “Mobilicity is preparing to announce bankruptcy.” Instead of posting on hearsay I reached out to my contact at Mobilicity for some answers and here is what she had to say:

Hi Corey,

Appreciate your call.

We wouldn’t put stock into slanderous rumours likely started by the competition. We have a more aggressive growth trajectory than any other new entrant and must be having a greater impact on their businesses than we first anticipated.

As you can see the rumors are just rumors.

Mobilicity is doing well and growing faster than they had ever expected, they already have a retail reach of over 300+ stores and that number is growing rapidly.

Thanks to all for the tips, I hope this post has cleared up any doubt in your minds.

This is very heartening to know that they are not going bankrupt. But why are they shutting down all there stores if they are doing so great. I have heard they have closed down 4 of their best stores!!!

Mobilicity seems to be a fly by night operator. I believe they have run out of options and are trying to consolidate by shutting down their corporate stores. These are typical systems of a company in distress.

They closed down their four stores to focus more on their ethnic market, here is another statement from Mobilicity:nn”In the last month, we have opened several new locations (including one at 1394 Gerrard Street East and another in Chinatown at 491-A Dundas Street West) as we focus on the most productive areas for us to gain subscribers and move away from less productive ones. We are rapidly expanding our customer base by offering industry-leading value through our network of over 300 dealers and growing.”

Mobilicity had threatened to sue Rogers over Chatr. They rolled back the Pakistan plan, and have now shut down their best 4 stores. Who will believe what they have to say? They have never kept their word on any of the BS that has been coming out from them

Closing down 4 or 6 corporate stores for financial or business reasons is not the issue. The issue is their credibility. They threatened to sue Rogers but chickened out, they launched unlimited Pakistan Plan but chickened out, they have closed most of their major corporate stores and claim to open new ones - will they chicken out on this as well?

what are you all talking about? They have not closed down ANY of their corporate stores at all. Scarborough, North York, Brampton, Mississauga - all doing better than ever. So which carrier do you work for or promote? WIND? Rogers? Be truthful and stop spreading nonsense cause you’re losing customers to Mobilicity.

I live at the intersection of Queens and Brittania in Mississauga. The large store opposite to my place has been shut down. Come and see it for yourself. I have seen another 5 which have closed down. May be the ones you are talking about are still alive and kicking.

I also looked up at their largest corporate store in GTA today. The one on Rodeo Drive in the Heartland Town Center. While I did not see any signs that it has been shut down. It looks deserted and no one is at the store or picking up any phones.

I can never get over the fact that they pulled out of the UNLIMITED South Asia plan 45 days into its launch as well as chicken out of suing Rogers for launching Chatr. And Now shutting down the stores. What a mess?

There are a total of 6 stores that have been shut down. I just saw another one in Brampton which is shutting down next week. If you don’t believe me go and see it for yourself. OKAY so Mobilicity is a small company with no tech savvy people working for them. So they got themselves hosted with someone my 10 year niece would for her homepage. They shut down most of their corporate stores. They give out wild threats to sue Rogers. Then they shut down their UNLIMITED South Asia Plan. Where will it end?

Mobilicity has shut down some of its major stores in GTA. They rolled back their South Asia Unlimited plan, they threatened to sue Rogers and are now having a face off with some of its irate customers. We can revoke plans, we can do anything and every thing - PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT WHEN YOU SIGN THEM ON! BEWARE!

No offense to Go-Daddy but no Telecom company in the world will host their website there. There services are not for enterprise customers. No wonder Mobilicity is shutting down all of its major stores and getting into a cold war with Rogers and its customers over blocking its UNLIMITED Plans. I received a cal from them that I was using my UNLIMITED plan for 500 minutes every month and they will block it. EXCUSE ME BUT UNLIMITED DOES NOT LIMIT ME TO 500 MINUTES! They are SCAMMERS! KEEP AWAY!

Mobilicity is claiming it has grown by 30% over the past 3 months. Mobilicity may be growing by signing up people who sell 50 other things as well. You cannot equate your corporate store with a pawn shop which also sells Mobilicity. WInd had it right from the word go. They never signed up pawn shops to sell their phones. No wonder Mobilcity is shutting down 10 of their own stores and signing 15 pawn shops and claiming they have grown 30%. This is the worst kind of spin I have ever seen in Corporate America.

Hi Corey, We have expanded 30% over the past 3 months. The only problem is that we closed down 10 of our corporate stores and signed up 15 Pawn shops which also sell Mobilicity along with tons of other things like kitchen utensils and baby cots! See how smart we are? They can fool some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time!

We must help them. Every company has issues when they are starting up. So they messed up upteen times. Is that such a big deal? So long as they recognize their blunders and decide not to commit them again they may survive. With the type of BS that is coming from them it looks like they will go down just because nobody ever told them that the CUSTOMER IS KING and the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. Never ever question the customer!

I have nothing personal against Mobilicity. I wish them well. I just do not want them to insult our collective intelligence. They have increased their stores but they have traded their corporate stores with the ones which sell groceries or baby cots! The number of stores has gone up but the quality of he stores has gone down!

Corey, why do you use the psuedo name Shawshank and then reply to yourself? Just because your favorite movie is called the Shawshank redemption? I don’t think the people you named use Psuedo names. They all expressed their opinion based on what they believe in not what you want to hear from them.

  • http://www.thecellularguru.com/blog TheCellularGuru

    Hahaha.
Why would I ever use a pseudo name on my own site? Please, ill speak candidly anywhere, regardless of topic.

  • Charles Borticelli

Hey Corey, You tell us why would you do that? And nobody is ill speaking. This is a blog and we are all trying to express our opinion. As a moderator your job is not to have any opinions! Not to mention submitting comments under psuedo names and then responding to those comments and calling names to bloggers. This the fisrt time in my life where a moderator had called names to most of the bloggers. This is highly unprofessional and irregular behaviour. Have a great weekend!

    Thank you for your response.
Hope you have a great weekend as well!

Okay, I’ ll try to get a word in - I am looking into mobilicity promotion opportuinities as I do believe that they are offering great value for money - as far as closing down of stores is concerned I believe that it is reasonable for a budget carrier to do some cost cutting and restructuring of their finances - I think it is fine if they are signing up multiple pawnshops to sell phone plans, they re effectivly increasing their number of outlets without taking on the risk of cost , if the shops sell they get paid , if they don’t then they don’t , maybe they have a targetted demographic in mind, or maybe they are trying to eliminate the “pay as you go” altogether, in my opinion it’s a brilliant idea to spread your dealerships rather than hold fort in a corporate location where the annual expenditure can chew on a chunk of your profit and impair your next marketting stratgey. Also bear in mind that a good majority of the consumers are still trapped into contracts so soon as their lease on the hi-fi carrier’s gadget expires, the people will want to run to their closest mobilicity provider etc. etc. In anycase I am an average consumer, just doing some research in the telecom industry and with the promotional opportunities that mobilicity has to offer in the time of recession, I think we ought to think ways to help mobilicity grow before the reds and the blues squeeze out all our cash.
