BlackBerry WebKit Browser Caught In Action!

Finally, the elusive WebKit browser can be seen in action. WillyBoy6 at Driphter.com has posted a video of the WebKit browser running on his 9800, showing the pinch zoom feature as well as tabbed browsing! The browser is very responsive and renders fairly quickly, but is still in its early stages. It’s lacking flash support at this stage, which we should see before the official release. All in all, the WebKit browser is coming along very nicely and our excitement has been renewed!
Driphter also disproved the theory that the WebKit browser is completely dependent on service books. We both reported on that very theory several days ago as well as several other Smartphone blogs, but we were all going off the best info we had at the time. According to Driphter, the WebKit browser relies solely on Java COD’s. Now that the COD’s are out there, hybrid specialists will most definitely be trying to port this browser to other devices. We’re not sure which OS’s and devices the COD files (for the 9800′s WebKit Browser) will be compatible with, but it should only be a matter of time before we find out.
