Blackberry Pearl 9100 Passes Through FCC, This Time Sporting AWS

Last week I reviewed the Rogers version of the BlackBerry Pearl 9100. As indicated, there have been announcements on all three major carriers in Canada for the phone. Some were left wondering, “will an AWS version actually be released?” Considering the original leaked shots of the About screen were seen running those frequencies, it seemed only a matter of time before the actual device popped up.
Low and behold, Engadget has found the FCC clearance documents of the device sporting AWS flags. “What does this mean to me?” you may be asking yourself. The answer is this, if you are a WIND Mobile, T-Mobile or recently launched Mobilicity customer and are looking for a smaller, sleeker, 3G-powered Blackberry device, you have found a winner. The Pearl 9100 is essentially the Bold 9700′s little brother packing many similar features. On the carrier side supposedly T-Mobile has passed on it, opting for an exclusive 3G Curve instead and none of the AWS carriers in Canada have acknowledged any plans to carry it either, which is a shame in my opinion.
But now that the FCC clearance has gone through, could customers expect a possible announcement? Guess we will have to wait and see.
