Today Verizon Tour users (including myself) found the system update icon popping up on their devices, reporting that a new version of 5.0 was available. Verizon has pushed out an update version of their recently released OS 5.0.0.591 for the BlackBerry Tour 9630, the OS version number is still the same but the platform has received an update from 4.2.0.272 to 4.2.0.284. I gave the wireless update a shot mostly because I haven’t ever tried it before and I’ve got to admit everything went really smoothly. The entire update process took just under an hour and was completely painless. After updating I can’t see any noticeable differences and the browser click issue that the recent 5.0 builds are known for is still present. Bootup time seems noticeably faster but that could just be me. Fire up the wireless update or Desktop Manager if you’re a Verizon Tour user and drop a comment with your findings.

Also a quick tip: if you take the wireless upgrade route and are happy with the OS, go back into the wireless update option found under “advanced options” and delete your downgrade data. It freed up over 10MB of memory for my Tour.
