Apple may be looking to expand iPhone OS to "new hardware platforms."

Apple recently posted a job listing on their website. The post reads:
The Core Platform team within Apple’s Core OS organization is looking for a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms. The team is responsible for low level platform architecture, firmware, core drivers and bring-up of new hardware platforms. The team consists of talented engineers with experience in hardware, firmware, IOKit drivers, security and platform architecture.
It appears that Apple is looking to bring the iPhone OS to other platforms. What this means exactly is unclear but TiPb speculates that it could be hinting at the iPhone OS on the Apple TV. The Apple TV has been one of Apple’s least successful products recently and perhaps the prospect of yet another device running the popular OS will spark its’ success. Implementation of the iPhone OS on the Apple TV does seem pretty difficult. As you know the iPhone OS is navigated purely by touch gestures while the Apple TV has no peripheral to allow this kind of input.
It seems unlikely but it could be possible that Apple is cooking another device that will run the iPhone OS. With the recent announcement of the iPad this does however, seem improbable. Maybe we will hear more about this when iPhone OS 4.0 is announced, hopefully in March.
Any ideas what “platforms” Apple could be pushing the iPhone OS to? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
