Bell readying a BlackBerry 6 update for 2011?
Aug 26th
Good news for Bell users with HSPA BlackBerry’s who recently upgraded and are salivating over the pending Canadian launch of the Torch 9800.
A tipster sent MobileSyrup an internal screenshot of both when they expect to release the update and the devices expected to be supported. Although, if you have been following BlackBerry news lately you would have already known these devices would get the update sooner or later, its always been a question of when.
With this little “leak” I guess it’s just a matter of time before Rogers and Telus drop the same information.

T-Mobile Launches G2 Teaser Site, Set to be Carrier’s First HSPA+ Phone
Aug 18th
T-Mobile just posted up the teaser site for their first HSPA+ phone, the G2. Previous leaks of T-Mobile’s roadmap lead us to think that it will be a HTC Android device launching sometime in September. While the people at Engaget seem to think the smokey silhouette above looks like the myTouch HD that has been leaked previously, I think it better resembles another leak, the HTC Blaze. Whatever it is, it’s coming soon and should bring a hot piece of hardware to T-Mobile. While you wait, check out the G2′s teaser site and feel free to sign up for updates if you’re into that sort of thing. Otherwise, we’ll keep you posted.
Release Date Set for Blackberry Curve 3G on Bell
Jul 27th
We posted last week that Bell had intentions on launching the Blackberry Curve 3G (more commonly referred to as the Kepler 9300), yet no other details regarding pricing or availability were known. Well, today Crackberry put our minds at ease posting an inventory update stating a launch date of Aug 12,2010, with hardware rumored to be arriving within the next week at retail locations.
Expect official pricing and probably more word from the other carriers planning to launch it to leak out in the coming days.

Blackberry Curve 9300 Headed To Bell Mobility
Jul 19th

It looks like Bell will be the first Canadian carrier to launch the Blackberry 9300 (Kepler). This flyer was posted on Crackberry.com today and shows it as “Coming soon” on their HSPA network, launching as the Curve 3G. No word on a release date or pricing, but if you are someone who appreciates the form factor/price point of the Curve 8520 with the speed of the 9700, this device is for you.

Jul 14th
One of our tipsters just let us know that Bell is experiencing voice and data outages in the greater Toronto area, just north of Steeles.
No word on a fix just yet, but if you are noticing similar problems you aren’t alone.
Update: We have been getting several tips since posting this that this outage is affecting Bell users in the downtown Toronto core as well. Still no word from Bell in regards to this issue.
Update #2: Just spoke to our contact at Bell and this is what they informed us:
- Service was affected in some parts of northern Ontario, Toronto, and the GTA
- Their network team has investigated the issue and all service should be restored
- Cause of downtime is still presently unknown, lasted roughly 1.5 hours
- As far as they are aware only CDMA customers were affected, not HSPA customers
Solo Mobile To Be Re-Branded?
Jul 12th
When it rains, it pours.
Back before WIND or Mobilicity ever existed, the major players in the Canadian mobile industry scoffed at the idea of “Unlimited” as a branding model. The big three oligopoly was happy with their high-cost, non-inclusive plans.
Now 7 months after WIND’s official launch, and only a few months between Mobilicity and Public Mobile both being launched in the GTA corridor, everyone wants a piece of the “Unlimited” action. Just a few weeks ago buzz started that Rogers was hopping the bandwagon with a new carrier rumored to be called “Chat-r”, which would have the same offerings as its competition, however on the much more stable Rogers wireless 3G network. This led to speculation that Rogers would possibly re-brand its ailing Fido brand, a rumor quickly shot down by Rogers President Rob Bruce.
As we have learned time and time again, when one of the big three makes a decision like this, the rest are more than likely to follow. Now, rumor has it that Bell is planning on re-branding its fledgling Solo Mobile brand, keeping the name, however, with the same contract-free unlimited offerings as chat-r. What this will do to Virgin Mobile no one really knows, but for now, I guess it’s only time before Telus launches their own (third brand) discount service or totally re-brands (again) Koodo Mobile.

Bell Dropping the Blackberry Bold 9000?
Jul 12th

One of our solid Bell connects just let us know rumors are circulating internally that the carrier is getting ready to discontinue the Blackberry Bold 9000. I guess with the 9700 and the recently launched 3G Pearl 9100, the 9000 has lost its thunder. Sad news for the former flagship 3G device.

Telus HTC Desire Just Around The Corner?
Jul 8th
What you are seeing here is an invite recently sent to Telus employees for a hands-on training with the forthcoming 2.1 powered HTC Desire. No word yet on a official release date, but rumor has it pinpointed for a launch around the end of July.
Expect more information on this exciting device in the coming weeks.

Virgin Mobile Confirms iPhone4. Where is Sasktel?
Jun 14th
Now that every Canadian carrier with 3G/HSPA+ support (which is essentially everyone) has confirmed their intentions to sell the iPhone 4, it leaves one to wonder, “Where is Sasktel?” One of the last remaining CDMA carriers in Canada, who announced plans to launch their own HSPA network on/around June 1st, hasn’t made any public announcement yet.
Could word be around the corner? We will keep you posted.

Bell Sets Release Date For The HTC Legend
Jun 14th
Just days after launching the Legend on its discount brand Virgin Mobile, Mobile Syrup is reporting that Bell plans to launch their own version on June 16th. Bell is positioning the device to compete with Rogers’ recently released Sony Ericsson X10 and Telus’s HTC Hero, with pricing set at $79.95 on a 3-year contract, $249.95 on a 2-year; $349.95 on a 1-year and $399.95 no contract (Just $50 above the asking price of Virgin).
Apparently the Virgin-sold handset, while SIM-locked, will work on Bell’s network without need for an unlock code, though we have yet to confirm this. More to come.
