Who uses what and where? Come see for yourself
Mar 4th
Gizmodo just posted a great article on what amount of market share various mobile browsers hold around the world.
Points I found interesting:
• Apple is EVERYWHERE
• BlackBerry doesn’t make the list in Canada (come on Canucks!)
• People use a PSP for web browsing?
See the details here.

Use a Sausage Stylus to Stimulate your iPhone
Mar 4th
I don’t know if any of you saw the story a while back about some of the people of Korea using sausages to control their iPhones in the cold weather (apparently they’re remarkably similar to fingers), but I’ve got great news! Now you, too, can have you very own sausage-stylus! (I’ll take “Sentences I never thought I’d write” for $1,000, Alex)
The folks over at Gizmodo (specifically Rosa Golijan) will be testing out these super meats, which are available for the low, low, loooooow price of $1.
So how many of you would’ve loved one of these when you were buried in snow a couple weeks back? (By the way, the first link has a video!)

Let the mayhem begin, Apple’s suing HTC
Mar 2nd

Just when we thought the dust had cleared from Apple’s lawsuit against Nokia, Engadget is reporting that Apple is at it again, this time duking it out with HTC over 20 patents “related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture, and hardware”
Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs had this to say:
“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,”
He then went on to say
“We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
In the end this means a LOT of paperwork and back and forth deliberations, we will keep you updated as we hear more news
What do you think about this? Apple being to pompous? Leave a comment and let us know!

A Camera on the horizon for the iPad?
Feb 24th
It seems as though Apple just can’t make up their minds on how to launch the iPad. Some reports have said yes to a camera, while others not so much. Officially, it doesn’t but the SDK report still indicates one in the specs.
Well, you can now add another rumor to the list. According to GoRumors the iPad camera could also come with flash and zooming ability. Indications of this have been dug out from the latest beta version of the iPhone SDK.
According to a report on MacRumors, the the code snippets confirm the presence of camera flash and zoom besides a forward facing camera. No details have yet been dug out on autofocus, though that could be another likely feature.
No one really knows why Apple left the camera out of the 1st Generation iPad, but as is with most of their products. Anything can change at any given moment.
What do you think? Should Apple have left the camera in the iPad? Leave us a comment
Follow me on twitterApple may be looking to expand iPhone OS to “new hardware platforms.”
Feb 23rd
Apple recently posted a job listing on their website. The post reads:
The Core Platform team within Apple’s Core OS organization is looking for a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms. The team is responsible for low level platform architecture, firmware, core drivers and bring-up of new hardware platforms. The team consists of talented engineers with experience in hardware, firmware, IOKit drivers, security and platform architecture.
It appears that Apple is looking to bring the iPhone OS to other platforms. What this means exactly is unclear but TiPb speculates that it could be hinting at the iPhone OS on the Apple TV. The Apple TV has been one of Apple’s least successful products recently and perhaps the prospect of yet another device running the popular OS will spark its’ success. Implementation of the iPhone OS on the Apple TV does seem pretty difficult. As you know the iPhone OS is navigated purely by touch gestures while the Apple TV has no peripheral to allow this kind of input.
It seems unlikely but it could be possible that Apple is cooking another device that will run the iPhone OS. With the recent announcement of the iPad this does however, seem improbable. Maybe we will hear more about this when iPhone OS 4.0 is announced, hopefully in March.
Any ideas what “platforms” Apple could be pushing the iPhone OS to? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Say Hello to iPhone video calling?
Feb 22nd

Big news coming this glorious Monday morning for all you loyal iPhone/potential iPad users. Numerous reports including GoRumors.com and 9to5mac.com are claiming that video calling may be on the horizon. Developers have reported evidences of references to a forward facing camera and video chat functionalities being present on the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK. A few icons built specifically for the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK show dedicated icons for video chat functionality. Also, the script has references to iChat which is another indication of the imminent video chat feature.
Now the question remains, what is Apple hiding? Is there a method to their madness? Or is holding off the launch of iPhone video calling a clever way to create more buzz for the impending iPad? Leave us a comment and let us know you thoughts.

reMail acquired by Google…but why?
Feb 20th
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m REALLY looking forward to this war brewing between Google and Apple. I think it’s fair to say Android phones and the iPhone are primarily marketed more towards consumers than business users and, with that market constantly growing, these two tech giants aren’t going to be pulling any punches.
Want proof? (I mean other than the in-again, out-again of Google Voice in the Apple’s App Store)
On Thursday Google acquired reMail, an iPhone email client, and virtually IMMEDIATELY pulled it from the App Store. In fact, the reMail website already has tons of Google propaganda all over it.
According to the press release, reMail will continue to work on the iPhone support for the app will continue until the end of March.
As far as Google goes, the jury’s still out on what they plan on doing with their new acquisition, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the answer is “nothing”. I mean, with as much money as Google has, they can definitely afford to buy a company for the sole purpose of hurting a rival. It’s actually a pretty brilliant move on their part…and I think it’s hilarious.
Follow me on twitterKodak suit with RIM and Apple moves to ITC control
Feb 19th
It’s another day and another patent infringement lawsuit. Actually this one is from back in January but CrackBerry reported today that it has moved on to the ITC for further investigation. The premise of this case is that Kodak sued Research in Motion and Apple for patents on image previewing and processing of images. Kodak took it to the ITC and they agreed to look into the issue further.
Personally, I feel like Kodak is being a “patent troll” by searching out any instances where they think they can milk some cash out of a lawsuit. If Kodak really wants to make money then they should do something truly innovative instead of trying to cash out on old technology. If image preview is the culprit here then there are way more wrongdoers here than just RIM and Apple. Regardless of my opinion Kodak is going to get the investigation that they were hoping for and from here on we’ll just have to see how this plays out.
Anyone else think these patent cases are getting a little ridiculous?
iPad, the Tablet PC killer?
Feb 15th
Ever since Apple first announced the iPad, there has been mixed emotion regarding both its name and generally how well it will do. Though historically speaking everything that comes out of Cupertino turns to gold, we decided to find out what other experts think.
TiPB reports on a recent blog post by Bill Hill, the former head of ClearType at Microsoft, who states:
“I predict it will be a huge success. It will cause the same kind of mayhem among TabletPC and eBook manufacturers that the iPod and iPhone did in their respective market categories”
He also goes on to explain one notable downsides of the iPad being: “blurs at small sizes and on lower-pitch screens like the iPad’s 132ppi. It might make sustained reading less enjoyable”
I guess time will only tell on the device’s popularity. Given how far Apple has come in such a short time in the consumer device market, getting into the computing manufacturing market should prove very successful.
Do you think the iPad will do well? Or do you think it will be a flop? Leave us a comment and let us know!
