Rogers releases the Nokia 6700 Slide
Aug 26th
Anyone who knows mobile in Canada knows that Rogers and Nokia have always had a good relationship, despite lack-luster sales.
Today, Rogers quietly launched another hand-set to the non-smartphone market with the Nokia 6700; a device packed with all the features you could ever need without the extra data cost. It comes loaded with Nokia’s S60 software and features the following specs:
- 2.2-inch display (resolution of 240 x 320)
- 2.5mm headset jack
- Holds up to 16GB with a microSD card
- Stereo FM radio
- 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, auto-focus, LED flash and a front camera for video calling
Nokia devices have always been known for their reliability and sturdy build, so all this at a very reasonable $79.99 on a 3-year contract, or $229.99 off-contract isn a solid price point for the new gadget.

Follow me on twitterVideo: BlackBerry6 running on the Bold 9700
Aug 20th
Since OS6 was announced there has been argument as to which existing in-market devices would actually support it.
The first commercials showcased it on a touchscreen device (Storm series), then rumors poured down that non-touchscreen devices such as the Pearl 9100, Bold 9650, and Bold 9700 would be supported, but no one had seen actual proof of it.
Well, it’s Friday and what kind of Friday would it be without a nice video to feast our eyes on? BGR brings us BlackBerry 6 running on his 9700 for the world to see. He doesn’t go into specifics on the build, but he shows us all the drool worthy features once could ask for, all running smoothly with little to no lag.
Have a look at the video:

As you can see it runs smoothly with minimal lag and looks promising to those who don’t want to give up their precious 9700′s.

BlackBerry Bold R020 To Replace 9700
Aug 19th

The ink is barely dry on all the wasted Torch 9800 marketing, but, low and behold BlackBerry fan-boys have something else to drool over.
Leaks of the BlackBerry 9780 (or R020 as it’s coded on this internal document) have been consistent and now internal documents show that it does exist, with a release date literally just around the corner.
If you are un-familiar with this hot new device, it is literally what Bold die-hards have been anticipating. It has the size and form factor of the 9700, with all the necessary upgrades to make it OS6 compliant. It will run the new, and high sought after, web-kit browser, have double the RAM of its predecessor (512MB from 256MB), and have a stunning 5MP camera (as seen on the Torch 9800).
According to this document it should launch in October, so keep your eyes peeled!

A Phone Only Michael Phelps Could Appreciate
Aug 18th

All right, picture this: You are going for your morning swim and your phone rings, what do you do? The person with the most common sense answers “Let it go to voicemail.” For the rest of us who can’t fathom the thought of missing a call, I introduce to you the first fully submersible, rugged phone from Motorola, codenamed “Jordan.”
Slated to launch on T-Mobile in November, the IP67 rated device can withstand being submerged in water up to 10 meters, though I doubt it can be under for long periods of time. It can more realistically survive a drop in the pool or being in a pocket when a friend “accidentally” pushes you in.
Imagine what calling home underwater would sound like? Or even cooler try combining this phone with some underwater music, and the morning front stroke doesn’t seem so boring anymore.

Rogers Launches The LG Neon2
Aug 18th
The LG Neon, though not the most successful phone to launch on Rogers (or Fido for that matter) was always the go-to phone for consumers looking for a discounted full QWERTY/Touchscreen device.
Just over a year since its launch comes the second generation of the device: The Neon2, refreshed with a few minor changes from its predecessor. A new 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display with a resolution of 240×400 (was a 2.4-inch display with the first Neon), increased support for expandable memory to 8GB (instead of the previous 4), and a bit heavier at 122 grams from its former 109 gram self.
The device is priced at a very reasonable $19.99 on a 3 year term or $174.99 outright, and don’t be surprised if it drops to $0 during back-to-school promotions set to launch in the coming weeks.

Say Hello to the Million Dollar Phone
Aug 13th

For all you eccentric millionaires out there who own a “Vertu” by Nokia, but are still left wanting more, I have found your new vice.
Introducing the “Las Vegas Jackpot” by Gresso, a company whose sole purpose is to jazz up your everyday phone. This time around they have taken black diamonds, pure gold, diamond-cut sapphire crystals, and 200-year old African Blackwood, installed it onto one of the most boring cellphones around (the thing doesn’t even have a FLASH) and given it a discreet $1,000,000 price-tag.
For those deep-pocketed collectors who are worried if they buy it, their style will be bitten, never fear, only 3 are being made, so it WILL remain a rarity. Now go ahead and buy it, you Baller, you.

So many decisions, so little time
Aug 12th
Today is the day everyone has been drooling talking about.
Both the Blackberry Torch 9800 and Motorola Droid 2, arguably the two most anticipated phones of the year have both finally officially been released by AT&T and Verizon, respectively, in the U.S., both at the same $199 (with or without rebate) price point on a 2 year term. Both running the latest OS’s from their respective manufacturers and both come harboring many expectations from their die-hard following, but which are you going to choose?
So far the reviews on the Torch have been 50/50, some sites bashing, while others praising it and the newly unveiled OS that it runs. As for the Droid 2 running Froyo, the OS has been out (in both leaked and official variations) for quite some time, thus allowing users to become familiar with it should their current device support the update.
I guess the real answer will be in the numbers when AT&T releases them. Knowing that the Android community in the U.S. is much larger (and more tight knit), I wouldn’t be surprised to see it outsell the Torch 9800.
Are you getting one of these hot new devices? If so, which one and why? Let me know.
An Android Flip, Really?
Aug 11th

It seems as though when Motorola gets on a roll with pumping out hardware they cover all angles.
A flip phone running Android was bound to happen sooner or later by Motorola or someone else.
Say hello to the XT806, looking eerily similar to being a successor to the popular linux based Motorola A1200 (Ming) handset. Though many details are still unknown including which Android OS it will run, what is known is that the processor will be 600MHz TI OMAP3430 chip screen, it will have a 3.6-inch 854 x 480 LCD touch screen, and will rock a 5 megapixel camera and have the ability to record video at 720p.
Nothing about this device has been set in stone, but considering it is being made as a CDMA device for China Telecom, so it could eventually hit Verizon, but I doubt it will hit Canada even when it is released.

The Nokia 5250: A successor to the 5230, a bit more attractive.
Aug 10th

The Nokia 5230 touchscreen device has/had been somewhat of a darling to AWS carriers as of recent. Although it never sold exorbitantly, it did give the AWS carriers (T-Mobile in the US and WIND/Mobilicity here in Canada) the ability to sell a discount touchscreen device with or without contract. Bad part is the 5230 was never the best performing device or the most attractive for that matter and to this day Nokia hasn’t released a successor to it.
Today, Engadget posted a picture of what could be the Nokia 5250 launching on T-Mobile. It has much of the same features in a larger housing and similar low end touch screen display. One can expect this device to launch in the near future with T-Mobile followed by a Canadian launch shortly after, with a price tag of $119.99 off-contract.

Rogers quietly launches the Blackberry Curve 9300
Aug 4th
Barely 24 hours has passed since excited Canadians found out that Rogers will carry the Blackberry Torch 9800, but that didn’t stop Rogers from quietly launching the Curve 3G earlier this morning ahead of schedule. I am interested in the strategy behind this quick launch, because it was only week or so ago that a picture surfaced of it on a Rogers Q3 flyer.
Either way this snappy little device is definitely worth the contract if you want the RAM and 3G speed connectivity of a 9700, in the discount shell of a Curve. It is launching at a reasonable $79.99 on a 3-year voice and data plan, or $399 as an outright purchase.
