HTC Legend Being Discontinued?
Aug 20th

Some of the best Android devices get the shortest life span, and it seems as though the very popular HTC Legend is seeing its final days as well.
According to the above inventory screenshot, due to supply constraints, the HTC Legend is being discontinued from Bell’s lineup of Android phones less than 3 months after being launched as a Bell/Virgin exclusive. The device hasn’t even received its update to Android 2.2!
A lot is left up in the air with this one causing some to question its validity, but factually speaking since the introduction of AMOLED screens to the mainstream, the components have become incredibly scarce, meaning Bell may be looking for a quick exit strategy to put focus solely on the recently released Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant.
Unfortunatley, the Legend, like its predecessor the Hero, fit a certain small-handed niche in North America. Because Bell (and Telus before them) were the only carriers in North America to release the device, they became an importer’s dream down south, where neither of the phones were offered officially by a carrier.
Either way, the HTC Legend had a great run in Canada, you can read our review on it here or say R.I.P. and let is go to Android heaven with the recently demised Nexus One.

A Phone Only Michael Phelps Could Appreciate
Aug 18th

All right, picture this: You are going for your morning swim and your phone rings, what do you do? The person with the most common sense answers “Let it go to voicemail.” For the rest of us who can’t fathom the thought of missing a call, I introduce to you the first fully submersible, rugged phone from Motorola, codenamed “Jordan.”
Slated to launch on T-Mobile in November, the IP67 rated device can withstand being submerged in water up to 10 meters, though I doubt it can be under for long periods of time. It can more realistically survive a drop in the pool or being in a pocket when a friend “accidentally” pushes you in.
Imagine what calling home underwater would sound like? Or even cooler try combining this phone with some underwater music, and the morning front stroke doesn’t seem so boring anymore.

Rogers Launches The LG Neon2
Aug 18th
The LG Neon, though not the most successful phone to launch on Rogers (or Fido for that matter) was always the go-to phone for consumers looking for a discounted full QWERTY/Touchscreen device.
Just over a year since its launch comes the second generation of the device: The Neon2, refreshed with a few minor changes from its predecessor. A new 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display with a resolution of 240×400 (was a 2.4-inch display with the first Neon), increased support for expandable memory to 8GB (instead of the previous 4), and a bit heavier at 122 grams from its former 109 gram self.
The device is priced at a very reasonable $19.99 on a 3 year term or $174.99 outright, and don’t be surprised if it drops to $0 during back-to-school promotions set to launch in the coming weeks.

T-Mobile Launches G2 Teaser Site, Set to be Carrier’s First HSPA+ Phone
Aug 18th
T-Mobile just posted up the teaser site for their first HSPA+ phone, the G2. Previous leaks of T-Mobile’s roadmap lead us to think that it will be a HTC Android device launching sometime in September. While the people at Engaget seem to think the smokey silhouette above looks like the myTouch HD that has been leaked previously, I think it better resembles another leak, the HTC Blaze. Whatever it is, it’s coming soon and should bring a hot piece of hardware to T-Mobile. While you wait, check out the G2′s teaser site and feel free to sign up for updates if you’re into that sort of thing. Otherwise, we’ll keep you posted.
BlackBerry 9670 Clamshell Not Exclusive to Verizon, Headed to Sprint Soon?
Aug 17th
Remember the BlackBerry 9670 Clamshell? You know the one that we showed off forever ago and also the one that just had its simulator leaked online. Knowing that, it’s pretty obvious that the device’s launch has to be coming up soon, and until now we thought the destined carrier would be Verizon. BGR just let the word out that the 9670 is actually headed to Sprint and is therefore not going to be available exclusively for Verizon subscribers. They also report that live, Sprint-branded units are already out in the wild for carrier testing. I don’t think most people are crazy about the form factor of the 9670 so this phone will need all the help it can get to sell well, and another carrier to call home is a step in the right direction. Still, I’ve got to wonder who is going to buy this over Sprint’s other offerings such as the HTC EVO 4G and the upcoming Epic 4G.

Palm Pre Plus Sold Out on Verizon and AT&T’s websites
Aug 16th
We don’t want to get our hopes too high with this one, but it’s certainly worth noting that the Palm Pre Plus is currently sold out on both AT&T’s and Verizon’s websites. While we absolutely want this to be an indicator that new webOS-toting hardware is ready to roll in for these two carriers, we can’t leave out the possibility that both carriers happened to run out of stock at the same time. Plus, while the phone may be sold out online, as far as we know stores are still selling Pres as usual. For now feel free to speculate, but for me, until Sprint follows suit with the older original Palm Pre I’m not convinced.

Half off the BlackBerry Torch 9800?
Aug 16th
It took only 4 days!!
Amazon, the leaders in online retail under-cutting, have dropped the 2 year price of the recently launched Torch to just $99.99.
Could it be the less than stellar sales that were reported this past launch weekend? Or that Amazon simply likes to under-cut AT&T? However you spin it, it’s a good deal for this hot new device.
I have been using it since it was launched and love every minute with it, so don’t miss out on this great deal!

Aug 16th

GLENTEL, a leading provider in telecommunications services and solutions based out of Burnaby BC, has agreed to acquire 81.5% of Diamond Wireless LLC, from Salt Lake City Utah.
GLENTEL currently operates more than 280 locations across Canada located in retail malls and some store front locations. As the largest multi-carrier mobile phone retailer in Canada, GLENTEL offers a choice of network carrier and wireless device or phone. Perhaps more familiar to customers are their trading names GLENTEL Wireless, WirelessWave, The Telephone Booth and WIRELESS Etc.
The purchase of Diamond Wireless helps to further establish GLENTEL’s expansion in to the United States according to President and CEO Thomas Skidmore. “We endorse Diamond’s business plan to grow with profitability representing Verizon Wireless, under the continued leadership and commitment of Diamond’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Troy Crosland, and his existing management team.”
With 128 currently operating stores throughout the United States and as a “premium retailer” of Verizon Wireless products, it’s is easy to see why Diamond Wireless was such an attractive purchase.
The transaction is expected to close on October 1, 2010, and is obviously subject to many terms and conditions. The total purchase price is USD $50,450,000.

Poll: Torch 9800 – Have you? Will You?
Aug 16th
As most of you may know, the Torch 9800 has finally launched on AT&T . It will also will be coming to Telus, Bell, Rogers, Virgin Canada, Orange UK and Vodafone UK in the upcoming weeks. I’m on AT&T and have decided to pass on the 9800 for now. I’m personally a fan of standard QWERTY style BlackBerrys and don’t really see myself using a slider for more than a short time. I don’t know if my feelings will change, but for now I’m standing strong with my Bold 9700 on OS 5. Although, if BlackBerry 6 doesn’t end up leaking for the 9700 soon and there is still no sign of the 9780 in sight, I might just crack.
So what’s your stance on the Torch 9800?
