Have Verizon and Apple Finally Struck A Deal For A CDMA iPhone?

You can file this as a rumor, but a solid connect has given us a tad bit of insight in regards to the infamous CDMA iPhone hopefully set to hit Big Red. Supposedly, May 1st is the day that Steve Jobs and Verizon meet in the Octagon, and the only REAL setback to closing this deal is the hit Verizon is willing to take on sales. Apple is infamous for needing control of ALL aspects of sales/marketing and pricing of the iPhone, and AT&T got hit hard when it came to that. I guess only time will tell, will follow up as the story unfolds.

This time around Apple can't afford to play hardball with Big Red like they did with AT&T for the first iPhone. AT&T's network has been so horrendous that they're going to be forced to either switch their exclusive provider or expand to other options — something Verizon undoubtably understands. Getting the iPhone on Verizon's network would be win-win for both Big Red and Apple, preventing any ludicrous demands on both sides.
I'd go a step further and say Verizon holds a bit more power in this situation for two reasons, the first being Apple HAS to get on a better network for the iPhone. AT&T can't cut it as they've shown time and time again, causing Apple's customers to suffer because of network issues. The second side of this has to do with Verizon taking such an open stance on Andorid (and with them being the biggest carrier in the country). People looking to ditch the iPhone for better service while retaining a comparable experience are now turning to Verizon and Android — something Apple sees and is not happy about.
This comment was written in haste so excuse it being a little sloppy. Basically though, with Verizon pushing Android so hard there's no way Apple is going to sit back and let AT&T's sloppy service drive users not only away from their partner carrier but from their product altogether.
