Has Rogers Put a Price on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10?
Mar 31st

Last week we reported that Rogers had been to advertising the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 as “on deck” and a launch was fairly imminent with no other details readily available. Well, MobileSyrup received a tip today that pricing has been tentatively set at $149.99 on a 3 year term and $549.99 out right, not too shabby if you ask me. Also updated is a release date rumored between April 7th and 14th. This is all we know for now on the latest Android powered smartphone to hit the Rogers lineup, but will keep you posted with updates as we get them.

Mar 31st
There were rumors that WebOS 1.4.1 would be dropping today and PreCentral has confirmed that it’s a go. First the update hit international carriers in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain. With the update comes the usual bug fixes, but more importantly for international customers 1.4.1 brings the ability to purchase paid applications. Palm has gone ahead and made it official on their devloper blog so check it out for the full details.
That’s not all though as Sprint users are reporting that WebOS 1.4.1 is hitting their Pres and Pixis as well. Verizon does not appear to be receiving the update yet. In fact, PreCentral has a tip that states it could be weeks before it hits Big Red. Perhaps it’s not as interesting seeing how those in the US have had paid applications for quite a while now, but there are still some noteworthy bug fixes addressed in the update. Hit the ‘more’ button for the full changelog and drop us a comment if it’s hitting your device.
- You can now purchase paid applications outside the US
- Bluetooth Audio now works with BMWs
- Pinch to zoom is back in the document viewer
- Shutter delay on the camera has been tweaked
- The volume slider bug appears to have been fixed
- The bug where YouTube links on outgoing emails weren’t working has been fixed
- The forward gesture is back in the browser

Rogers Adds MiFi Hotspot To Their Repertoire
Mar 31st

Courtesy of the Novatel Mifi 2372, Rogers users with a data plan can now broadcast a 3G-based WiFi signal to five nearby devices at speeds of 7.2Mbps. While not quite reaching the blazing 21Mbps speeds of their ZTE MF668 Rocket Stick, this little device will help small groups work together without the need for a dedicated WiFi connection.
The device is also fairly well-equipped with features, as it allows GPS positioning and NAS storage, meaning through the MicroSDHC slot you can share your files with anyone on the network. Very clever.
Price is $50 on a three-year contract and $250 without a commitment, which, for this service, is actually a pretty good deal. Combine that with a $65 5GB data plan, and you have yourself internet wherever Rogers provides 3G, which is pretty good.
Check out the Rogers Mobile Hotspot Novatel Mifi 2372 and start sharing that data!
Blackberry OS Leak: 5.0.0.607 Leaked for Storm2 9550
Mar 31st
Yes, another leak, another bunch of people scrambling to install it onto their device as fast as they can to see what’s new, what’s better, what’s next. Now that we’re up into the 600′s, OS5 is getting very fast, very stable, as new features are slowing down and overall experience is becoming more streamlined.
This is also the rumoured OS that will ship with Bell’s Storm2 launch next month, so we’ll see if that holds up. If it does, that means this is a pretty stable release.
So far no word on whether this is a REQUIRED upgrade, meaning a speed/feature improvement enough to warrant certain upgrading.
Download it and let us know.

LinkedIn Finally Arrives on Blackberry
Mar 30th

The long-awaited (and long-teased) LinkedIn application for Blackberry have arrived, and, as expected, is pretty good. Much like the Facebook for Blackberry Application, there are a row of icons on the top that load to give you Status Updates, Friend Requests, Messages, etc.
One of the nice features about the app is that it integrates into your Blackberry Contacts and Email, so, like Facebook, your existing contacts will sync with your LinkedIn contacts, and provide a seamless synchronization between your two contact lists.
The app is a little buggy at the moment, and will likely be updated in the coming weeks as people report bugs. But if you use the service at all, it is definitely work checking out.
Download LinkedIn for Blackberry and let us know what you think.
Windows Phone 7 Series meets HTC Diamond, well sort of.
Mar 29th
We all know about Microsoft’s strict hardware requirements for devices looking to run WP7S. Today Engadget posted video of the HTC Diamond running WP7S. Now when I say running, I mean that it was actually doing so through a remote desktop client and not actually a port of the OS. After seeing the video I think its obvious why Microsoft pushes high-end hardware so hard. This technically doesn’t reliably indicate how WP7S would actually run on the HTC Diamond but I can’t imagine the performance would be any better. Go ahead and take a gander at the video below if you can handle the laggy suspense.

Storm2 9550 Coming to Bell Mobility?
Mar 29th

Well Bell customers your time has come. Come April 13th, you can go ahead and give the old 9530 to the dog to destroy (If you haven’t already) because word has it Bell is planning on launching the Storm2 9550. This comes just days after quietly discontinuing the original Storm1 from their smart phone roster. The 9550 will be offered to CDMA customers and will be priced as following: $349.95 on 3-year contract, $399.95 on 2-year contract, $499.95 on 1-year contract, and $549.95 out right. This pricing is rather high for today’s standards so I’m fairly certain as the marketing rolls out the promotional pricing will decrease closer to or on date of launch.
So, my die hard Storm1 users who plans on lining up outside their nearest Bell store come launch?
